It is seldom possible to pose an unequivocal origin for mafic xenoliths in granitoids of a given locality. However, in several SVL localities, certain constraints on origin can be placed. Here, both angular and rounded mafic xenoliths occur in elongate bands in the mesozonal Larsen granodiorite, which concordantly intrudes adjacent Cambro-Ordovician metasediments of the Koettlitz group. The angular xenoliths (1) exhibit foliation, (2) contain the assemblage clinopyroxene + biotite +/- hornblende + plagioclase + quartz, and (3) represent nearly in situ stopping of adjacent Koettlitz amphibolite of identical texture and mineralogy. The shear velocity structure of the shallow upper mantle beneath the Arabian Shield has been modeled by inverting new Rayleigh wave phase velocity measurements between 45 and 140 s together with previously published Rayleigh wave group velocity measurement between 10 and 45 s. Abstract The seismic velocity structure of Antarctica is important, both as a constraint on the tectonic history of the continent and for understanding solid Earth interactions with the ice sheet. We use Rayleigh wave array analysis methods applied to teleseismic data from recent temporary broadband seismograph deployments to image the upper mantle structure of central and West Antarctica. Crust and upper mantle P wave velocity structure beneath Valles caldera, New Mexico: Results from the Jemez teleseismic tomography experiment

New results are presented from the teleseismic component of the Jemez Tomography Experiment conducted across Valles caldera in northern New Mexico. We invert 4872 relative {ital P} wave arrival times recorded on 50 portable stations to determine velocity structure to depths of 40 km.
