Obtaining the Einstein-Hilbert action from a superconformal theory

By breaking the superconformal group it is possible to obtain an Einstein-Hilbert type action starting from one quadratic in the curvatures. The Newtonian gravitational constant is interpreted as a ratio of order parameters; at present low energies, these approach constant values of inherent dimension (much like the magnetization in a ferromagnet). Radiative corrections are forwarded as the mechanism responsible for S.S.B. 12 refs.
Unique one-loop effective action for the six-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action

In this Letter we give the gauge-independent divergent part of the one-loop correction to the effective action for the six-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action, including a cosmological constant. We extend the methods of Barvinsky-Vilkovisky from four to higher dimensions, including the Vilkovisky-DeWitt correction, to obtain the unique counterterms for an arbitrary background field. All one-loop operators are given for {ital N} dimensions; however, due to the complexity of the Schwinger-DeWitt expansion, going beyond six dimensions to eight or ten will probably require restricting the background.

A strategy for a realization of a problem free Einstein - Hilbert action along with a problem free toy cosmology

We describe features of a low energy effective Scalar-Tensor theory of gravity having a divergent non-minimal coupling at a point where a fermionic part of the action identically vanishes and is therefore non-dynamical. Under fairly general conditions, theories having a divergent non-minimal coupling at a point can support non-topological soliton solutions. The interior of all sufficiently large solitonic domains approach a unique limit point determined by the vanishing of the effective potential of the non-minimally coupled scalar field. This can lead to a realization of an effective Einstein-Hilbert action with no cosmological constant problem. A cosmology with characteristic features follows.
