The disordered phases of the 1-carba-closo-decaborates LiCB9H10 and NaCB9H10 exhibit the best solid-state ionic conductivities to date among all known polycrystalline competitors, likely facilitated in part by the highly orientationally mobile CB9H10- anions. We have undertaken both NMR and quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) measurements to help characterize the monovalent anion reorientational mobilities and mechanisms associated with these two compounds and to compare their anion reorientational behaviors with those for the divalent B10H102- anions in the related Li2B10H10 and Na2B10H10 compounds. Low-Temperature Rotational Tunneling of Tetrahydroborate Anions in Lithium Benzimidazolate-Borohydride Li₂(bIm)BH₄

To investigate the dynamical properties of the novel hybrid compound, lithium benzimidazolate-borohydride Li₂(bIm)BH₄ (where bIm denotes a benzimidazolate anion, C₇N₂H₅^-), we have used a set of complementary techniques: neutron powder diffraction, ab initio density functional theory calculations, neutron vibrational spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, neutron spin echo, and quasi-elastic neutron scattering. Our measurements performed over the temperature range from 1.5 to 385 K have revealed the exceptionally fast low-temperature reorientational motion of BH₄^- anions. Effects of partial anion substitution on the thermoelectric properties of silver(I) chalcogenide halides in the system Ag{sub 5}Q{sub 2}X with Q=Te, Se and S and X=Br and Cl

A selection of mixed conducting silver chalcogenide halides of the general formula Ag{sub 5}Q{sub 2}X with Q=sulfur, selenium and tellurium and X=chlorine and bromine has been investigated due to their thermoelectric properties. Recently, the ternary counterpart Ag{sub 5}Te{sub 2}Cl showed a defined d{sup 10}-d{sup 10} interaction in the disordered cation substructure at elevated temperatures where Ag{sub 5}Te{sub 2}Cl is present in its high temperature {alpha}-phase.
