The effect of the oxygen-displacive modes in the M/sub x/La/sub 2-x/CuO/sub 4/ and M/sub 2/RCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-/delta//-type superconductors is discussed with regard to its possible relevance for a high-temperature mechanism of superconductivity. Critical temperature, isotope effect and superconducting gap are estimated in fair agreement with the experimental data.

Anomalous Isotopic Effect Near the Charge-Ordering Quantum Criticality

Within the Hubbard-Holstein model, we evaluate the crossover lines marking the opening of pseudogaps in the cuprates, which, in our scenario, are ruled by the proximity to a charge-ordering quantum criticality (stripe formation). We find that their isotopic dependence, due to critical fluctuations, implies a substantial positive shift of the pseudogap-formation temperature T{sup *} . We infer that the isotopic shift of the superconducting T{sub c} is nearly absent in the optimally and overdoped regimes and is negative and increasing upon underdoping. The dynamical nature of the charge-ordering transition may explain the spread of the experimental values of T{sup *}more » .« less

Superconductivity and quantum criticality linked by the Hall effect in a strange metal

Many unconventional superconductors exhibit a common set of anomalous charge transport properties that characterize them as ‘strange metals’, which provides hope that there is a single theory that describes them1–3. However, model-independent connections between the strange metals and superconductivity have remained elusive. Here, we show that the Hall effect of the unconventional superconductor BaFe₂(As_1-xP_x)₂ contains an anomalous contribution arising from the correlations within the strange metal. This term has a distinctive dependence on the magnetic field, which allows us to track its behaviour across the doping–temperature phase diagram, even under the superconducting dome. Unusual temperature dependence of the upper critical field in superconducting heavy-fermion systems

A new formulation of the superconducting properties of heavy-fermion metals with potentially dramatic consequences for the critical field is proposed and analyzed. The new feature of the formulation consists of including the field dependence of the normal-state properties such as the magnetic susceptibility, electronic specific heat, and electronic scattering lifetime in the calculation of the superconducting critical field.
