Hard carbon coated nano-Si/graphite composite as a high performance anode for Li-ion batteries

With the ever increasing demands on Li-ion batteries with higher energy densities, alternative anode with higher reversible capacity is required to replace the conventional graphite anode. Here, we demonstrate a cost-effective hydrothermal-carbonization approach to prepare the hard carbon coated nano-Si/graphite (HC-nSi/G) composite as a high performance anode for Li-ion batteries. The severe capacity decay of LiFePO{sub 4} at low temperatures (≤0 °C) limits its wide applications as cathode materials for energy storage batteries. High performance batteries with carbon nanomaterials and ionic liquids

The present invention is directed to lithium-ion batteries in general and more particularly to lithium-ion batteries based on aligned graphene ribbon anodes, V.sub.2O.sub.5 graphene ribbon composite cathodes, and ionic liquid electrolytes.
