Highlights: Black-Right-Pointing-Pointer Transparent and uniform LiLa{sub (1-x)}Eu{sub x}(WO{sub 4}){sub 2} single-crystalline fibers were grown by the micro-pulling-down method. Black-Right-Pointing-Pointer Alkali and rare earth ionic radii influence the pulling rate on the growth. Black-Right-Pointing-Pointer Eu incorporation in LiLa(WO{sub 4}){sub 2} induces local distortions in the crystalline lattice. Black-Right-Pointing-Pointer LiLa{sub (1-x)}Eu{sub x}(WO{sub 4}){sub 2} single-crystalline fibers present intense red emission under 395 nm excitation. Pulling of 3 mm diameter AlSb rods by micro-pulling down method

We designed and supplied special crucibles for AlSb material. Thermal insulation and limitation of Sb losses were our first work. The protection of the growth environment was also one of our priority to avoid any pollution of the Fibercryst {mu}PD facility. When this work was achieved, the next step was the calibration of the heating power for these new crucibles. Normal-state transport properties of slightly overdoped YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital y}} crystals prepared by a crystal-pulling technique

Anisotropic transport properties of high-temperature superconductors were extensively investigated for YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital y}} crystals prepared by a crystal-pulling technique. Since the crystals are as large as 4{times}4{times}2 mm{sup 3}, we have successfully measured their resistivity, Hall coefficient, and thermopower along both the in-plane and out-of-plane directions, by using samples cut from the same crystal. The measured in-plane data have revealed that our samples are slightly overdoped when highly oxygenated. This means that our samples have the least anisotropic resistivities between the in-plane and out-of-plane directions among high-{ital T}{sub {ital c}} cuprates. Single crystals of (Nd 1-x Ce x ) 2 Fe 14 B, some reaching ~6×8×8mm 3 in volume, are grown out of Fe-(Nd, Ce) flux. This crystal growth method allows for large (Nd 1-x Ce x ) 2 Fe 14 B single crystals to be synthesized using a simple flux growth procedure.
