The rotational band built on the high-K multi-quasiparticle state can be interpreted as a multi-phonon band of the precession mode, which represents the precessional rotation about the axis perpendicular to the direction of the intrinsic angular momentum. By using the axially symmetric limit of the random-phase approximation (RPA) formalism developed for the nuclear wobbling motion, we study the properties of the precession modes in {sup 178}W: the excitation energies, B(E2) and B(M1) values. Low-lying dipole modes in {sup 26,28}Ne in the quasiparticle relativistic random phase approximation

The low-lying isovector dipole strengths in the neutron-rich nuclei {sup 26}Ne and {sup 28}Ne are investigated in the quasiparticle relativistic random phase approximation. Nuclear ground-state properties are calculated in an extended relativistic mean field theory plus Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) method where the contribution of the resonant continuum to pairing correlations is properly treated. Numerical calculations are tested in the case of isovector dipole and isoscalar quadrupole modes in the neutron-rich nucleus {sup 22}O. It is found that in the present calculation, low-lying isovector dipole strengths at E{sub x}<10 MeV in nuclei {sup 26}Ne and {sup 26}Ne exhaust about 4.9% and 5.8%more »« less

Relativistic quasiparticle random-phase approximation description of isoscalar compression modes in open-shell nuclei in the A{approx_equal}60 mass region

Very recent inelastic {alpha}-scattering data on the isoscalar monopole and dipole strength distributions in {sup 56}Fe, {sup 58}Ni, and {sup 60}Ni are analyzed in the relativistic quasiparticle random-phase approximation (RQRPA) with the DD-ME2 effective nuclear interaction (nuclear matter compression modulus K{sub nm}=251 MeV). The calculation nicely reproduces the observed asymmetric shapes of the monopole strength, and the bimodal structure of the dipole strength distributions. The RQRPA centroid and mean energies are in very good qualitative agreement with the experimental values both for the monopole, and for the low- and high-energy components of the dipole transition strengths.
