Dilepton suppression as a signature for the baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma

The dilepton yield at invariant masses between 2m/sub ..pi../ and 1 GeV is shown to be reduced substantially if a baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma is formed in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We suggest therefore to measure the total dilepton yield in this region of invariant masses as a function of the incident energy. The onset of a baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma is then signaled by a decrease in this excitation function.

Classical strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma. VI. Shear viscosity and self-diffusion

We construct the Liouville operator for the SU(2) classical colored Coulomb plasma for arbitrary values of the Coulomb coupling {Gamma}=V/K, the ratio of the mean Coulomb to kinetic energy. We show that its resolvent in the classical colored phase space obeys a hierarchy of equations. We use a free-streaming approximation to close the hierarchy and derive an integral equation for the time-dependent structure factor. Its reduction by projection yields hydrodynamical equations in the long-wavelength limit. We discuss the character of the hydrodynamical modes at strong coupling. Energy distribution of muon pairs: A signal for the creation of a baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

A study of the energy distribution of muon pairs and photon pairs produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions shows that muon pairs may be better signatures than photon pairs for the detection of a baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma (QGP). The value of the transverse mass of the muon pairs at which the {rho}-meson peak disappears from their invariant-mass spectrum is sensitive to the equation of state of the QGP. Hence dimuons are useful not only for the detection of a QGP but also for a study of its equation of state.
