Title: Distributions of topological observables in inclusive three- and four-jet events in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV

Abstract

This paper presents distributions of topological observables in inclusive three- and four-jet events produced in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV with a data sample collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to a luminosity of 5.1fb^-1. We corrected the distributions for detector effects, and compared with several event generators based on two- and multi-parton matrix elements at leading order. Thus, among the considered calculations, MADGRAPH interfaced with PYTHIA6displays the overall best agreement with data.

Studies of topological distributions of inclusive three- and four-jet events in {bar {ital p}}{ital p} collisions at {radical}{ital s}=1800 GeV with the D0 detector

The global topologies of inclusive three- and four-jet events produced in {bar {ital p}}{ital p} interactions are described. The three- and four-jet events are selected from data recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of {radical}{ital s}=1800 GeV. The measured, normalized distributions of various topological variables are compared with parton-level predictions of tree-level QCD calculations. The parton-level QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with the data. Study of hard double-parton scattering in four-jet events in $p p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV with the ATLAS experiment

Inclusive four-jet events produced in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt{s} = 7 TeV are analysed for the presence of hard double-parton scattering using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 37.3 pb^-1, collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The contribution of hard double-parton scattering to the production of four-jet events is extracted using an artificial neural network, assuming that hard double-parton scattering can be approximated by an uncorrelated overlaying of dijet events. The inclusive jet cross section for proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeVwas measured by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC with data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0fb^-1. The measurement covers a phase space up to 2TeV in jet transverse momentum and 2.5 in absolute jet rapidity. The statistical precision of these data leads to stringent constraints on the parton distribution functions of the proton.
