We study one-quasiproton excitations in the rare-earth region in the framework of the nuclear Density Functional Theory in the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov variant. The blocking prescription is implemented exactly with the time-odd mean field fully taken into account. The equal filling approximation is compared with the exact blocking procedure. We show that both procedures are strictly equivalent when the time-odd channel is neglected, and discuss how nuclear alignment properties affect the time-odd fields. The impact of time-odd fields on calculated one-quasiproton bandhead energies is found to be rather small, of the order of 100-200 keV; hence, the equal filling approximation is sufficientlymore »« less

Rotational bands in 158Er at ultrahigh spin have been studied in the framework of relativistic and nonrelativistic nuclear density-functional theories. Consistent results are obtained across the theoretical models used but some puzzles remain when confronted with experiment. Namely, the many-body configurations which provide good description of experimental transition quadrupole moments and dynamic moments of inertia require substantial increase of the spins of observed bands as compared with experimental estimates, which are still subject to large uncertainties. If, however, the theoretical spin assignments turned out to be correct, experimental band 1 in 158Er would be the highest spin structure ever observed.

Propagation of statistical uncertainties in covariant density functional theory: Ground state observables and single-particle properties

Statistical errors in ground state observables and single-particle properties of spherical even-even nuclei and their propagation to the limits of nuclear landscape have been investigated in covariant density functional theory (CDFT) for the first time. Here, we consider only covariant energy density functionals with non-linear density dependency. Statistical errors for binding energies and neutron skins significantly increase on approaching two-neutron drip line. On the contrary, such a trend does not exist for statistical errors in charge radii and two-neutron separation energies. A systematic investigation of the ground-state and fission properties of even-even actinides and superheavy nuclei with Z = 90–120 from the two-proton up to two-neutron drip lines with proper assessment of systematic theoretical uncertainties has been performed for the first time in the framework of covariant density functional theory (CDFT).
