In next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics, gluon-gluon interactions dominate the production of bottom quarks at hadron collider energies, and gluon-quark interactions control inclusive prompt photon production at large transverse momentum in [ital pp] collisions at fixed-target energies. Using such data, in conjunction with data from deep inelastic lepton scattering, we determine a new gluon density whose shape differs substantially from that derived from previous fits of data. The new set of parton densities provides a good fit to bottom quark, prompt photon, and deep inelastic data, including the most recent NMC and CCFR results.

Nucleon-antinucleon annihilation via confined quark-gluon states

In this work we use the quark degrees of freedom in a nucleon to calculate a nucleon-antinucleon annihilation potential. The range of this annihilation is determined by the long-range confinement forces giving the quark wave functions which also reproduce the nucleon charge radius. We find that NN-bar scattering is sensitive to the annihilation mainly between 0.5 and 2.0 fm. Our annihilation model shows that the dominant annihilation contribution to NN-bar scattering comes from qqq-bar q-bar multigluon intermediate states and that the intermediate qq-bar multigluon as well as pure gluonic states are less important for NN-bar scattering.

Hard photon production from a chemically equilibrating quark-gluon plasma with finite baryon density at one loop and two loop

We investigate hard photon production in a chemically equilibrating quark-gluons plasma with finite baryon density at one-loop and two-loop based on Juettner distribution of partons of the system. We find that the photon yield increases obviously with increasing the initial quark chemical potential, and the photon production is dominated by early times. In addition, obvious difference between the calculated production and the one in the thermodynamic equilibrium system shows that the study of photon production in the chemically equilibrating system is very significant.
