Exploiting the enabling power of the Lanczos method in momentum space, we determine accurately the quasiparticle and scaling properties of disordered three-dimensional Dirac semimetals surrounding the quantum critical point separating the semimetal and diffusive metal regimes. Spin liquid and quantum phase transition without symmetry breaking in a frustrated three-dimensional Ising model

We show that the highly frustrated transverse-field Ising model on the three-dimensional pyrochlore lattice realizes a first-order phase transition without symmetry breaking between the low-field Coulomb quantum spin liquid and the high-field polarized phase. The quantum phase transition is located quantitatively by comparing low- and high-field series expansions. Furthermore, the intriguing properties of the elementary excitations in the polarized phase are investigated. We argue that this model can be achieved experimentally by applying mechanical strain to a classical spin-ice material composed of non-Kramers spins such as Ho₂Ti₂O₇. Amplitude modes in three-dimensional spin dimers away from quantum critical point

Magnetic excitations of long-range ordered localized spin systems are generally well described by the linear spin-wave theory which accounts for phase fluctuations of the order parameter. In contrast, quasiparticles associated with amplitude fluctuations are only observed in a few quantum antiferromagnets close to a quantum critical point (QCP), where the ordered moment is suppressed significantly from its fully saturated value. Via inelastic neutron scattering measurements and extended spin-wave calculations, we present the observation and explanation of amplitude modes in the magnetic excitation spectra of three-dimensional S = 3/2 spin dimers Cr₂TeO₆ and Cr₂WO₆, which nevertheless are away from the QCPmore »« less

Nature of the Triple Point in Chromium Alloys: Mode-Softening of the Incommensurate Spin Density Wave

The magnetic stiffness parameter, A2, associated with the critical fluctuations in the paramagnetic phase close to the incommensurate spin-density-wave (SDW) transition of a Cr+0.18at.%Re single crystal, when compared with that of in pure chromium and dilute alloys of vanadium in chromium, indicates that the singularity responsible for the onset of the commensurate SDW phase occurs when A2 approaches zero at a finite value of the incommensurability parameter, delta 0.017 rlu, instead of zero as usually assumed.
