Transition from a Tonks-Girardeau gas to a super-Tonks-Girardeau gas as an exact many-body dynamics problem

We investigate transition of a one-dimensional interacting Bose gas from a strongly repulsive regime to a strongly attractive regime, where a stable highly excited state known as the super Tonks-Girardeau gas was experimentally realized very recently. By solving exact dynamics of the integrable Lieb-Liniger Bose gas, we demonstrate that such an excited gas state can be a very stable dynamic state. Furthermore we calculate the breathing mode of the super Tonks-Girardeau gas which is found to be in good agreement with experimental observation. A harmonically trapped, ultracold, one-dimensional (1D) spin-1 Bose gas with strongly repulsive or attractive 1D even-wave interactions induced by a three-dimensional (3D) Feshbach resonance is studied. The exact ground state, a hybrid of Tonks-Girardeau (TG) and ideal Fermi gases, is constructed in the TG limit of infinite even-wave repulsion by a spinor Fermi-Bose mapping to a spinless ideal Fermi gas. Wave functions of the super-Tonks-Girardeau gas and the trapped one-dimensional hard-sphere Bose gas

Mixture of Tonks-Girardeau gas and Fermi gas in one-dimensional optical lattices

We study the Bose-Fermi mixture with infinite boson-boson repulsion and finite boson-fermion repulsion. Using a generalized Jordan-Wigner transformation, we show that the system can be mapped to a repulsive Hubbard model and thus can be solved exactly for the case with equal boson and fermion masses. Using the Bethe-ansatz solutions, we investigate the ground-state properties of the mixture system. Our results indicate that the system with commensurate filling n=1 is a charge insulator but still a superfluid with nonvanishing superfluid density. We also briefly discuss the case with unequal boson and fermion masses.

Pairing of a harmonically trapped fermionic Tonks-Girardeau gas

The fermionic Tonks-Girardeau (FTG) gas is a one-dimensional spin-polarized Fermi gas with infinitely strong attractive zero-range odd-wave interactions, arising from a confinement-induced resonance reachable via a three-dimensional p-wave Feshbach resonance. We investigate the off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO) of the FTG gas subjected to a longitudinal harmonic confinement by analyzing the two-particle reduced density matrix for which we derive a closed-form expression. Using a variational approach and numerical diagonalization we find that the largest eigenvalue of the two-body density matrix is of order N/2, where N is the total particle number, and hence a partial ODLRO is present for a FTGmore » gas in the trap.« less
