We report on temperature-dependent pair distribution function measurements of Sr_1-xNa_xFe₂As₂, an iron-based superconductor system that contains a magnetic phase with reentrant tetragonal symmetry, known as the magnetic C4 phase. Quantitative refinements indicate that the instantaneous local structure in the C4 phase comprises fluctuating orthorhombic regions with a length scale of ~2 nm, despite the tetragonal symmetry of the average static structure. Additionally, local orthorhombic fluctuations exist on a similar length scale at temperatures well into the paramagnetic tetragonal phase. Elucidating the magnetic and superconducting phases in the alkali metal intercalated iron chalcogenides

The complex interdigitated phases have greatly frustrated attempts to document the basic features of the superconductivity in the alkali metal intercalated iron chalcogenides. Here, using elastic neutron scattering, energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, and resistivity measurements, we elucidate the relations of these phases in RbxFeySe2-zSz. We find (i) the iron content is crucial in stabilizing the stripe antiferromagnetic (AF) phase with rhombic iron vacancy order (y≈1.5), the block AF phase with 5×5 iron vacancy order (y≈1.6), and the iron vacancy-free phase (y≈2); and (ii) the iron vacancy-free superconducting phase (z=0) evolves into an iron vacancy-free metallic phase with sulfur substitution (z >more »« less

Phase diagram of the isovalent phosphorous-substituted 122-type iron pnictides

Recent experiments demonstrated that the isovalent doping system gives a similar phase diagram as the heterovalent doped cases. For example, with the phosphorous (P) doping, the magnetic order in BaFe₂(As_1–xP_x)₂ compound is first suppressed, then the superconductivity dome emerges to an extended doping region but eventually it disappears at large x. With the help of a minimal two-orbital model for both BaFe₂As₂ and BaFe₂P₂, together with the self-consistent lattice Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equation, we calculate the phase diagram against the P content x in which the doped isovalent P atoms are treated as impurities. Iron substitution in NdCoAsO: crystal structure and magnetic phase diagram

The effects of replacing small amounts of Co with Fe in NdCoAsO are reported. Polycrystalline materials with compositions NdCo{sub 1-x}Fe{sub x}AsO (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20) are studied and the results compared to previous reports for NdCoAsO. Rietveld analysis of powder x-ray diffraction data shows that as Fe replaces Co on the transition metal (T) site, the T-As distance increases, and the As tetrahedra surrounding the T site become more regular. Electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements indicate that the three magnetic phase transitions in NdCoAsO are suppressed as Co is replaced by Fe, and these transitions are notmore »« less
