Isoscalar and isovector pair correlations in an isospin-invariant pairing plus quadrupole model

Isovector and isoscalar correlations are investigated using an isospin-invariant pairing plus quadrupole model with inclusion of an isoscalar pairing force. An exact shell model calculation is carried out on the (g{sub 9/2}){sub p}(g{sub 9/2}){sub n} shell, as a schematic example. We study isoscalar ({tau}=0) and isovector ({tau}=1) pair correlations in the ground state and excited states, and examine the interplay between isoscalar and isovector correlations. Under the single g{sub 9/2} shell approximation, it is found that, for the N=Z even-even system, the number of {tau}=1, J=8 pairs increases drastically in a state with total spin I=8 along the yrast line.more »« less

Neutron-proton pairing correction in the extended isovector and isoscalar pairing model

An extended O_ST(8) model with multi j-orbits is constructed based on the angular momentum decomposition with “pseudo”-spin S for valence nucleons in a j-orbit. It is shown that the isovector S = 0 and T=1 pairs are exactly the J=0 and T=1 pairs in a given j-orbit, while the isoscalar S = 1 pairs are linear combinations of J=odd pairs, with which the pairing Hamiltonian can be used to estimate isovector and isoscalar pairing interactions. Isovector pairing and quartet condensation in N=Z nuclei

We introduce and study a quartet condensate model (QCM) to treat the isovector pairing correlations in N=Z nuclei, by conserving the particle number and the total spin and isospin in the ground state of such nuclei. For the calculations we choose different isovector pairing forces acting on spherical and axially deformed single particle states. The results show that the QCM model describes very well the isovector pairing correlations for nuclear systems with N=Z.

A Richardson-Gaudin exactly-solvable model is presented for an isovector-isoscalar pairing interaction. Exact results show the existence of quartet correlations at T = 0, that disappear at higher T where two condensates of identical particles coexist.
