Energy transfer from ³nπ* pyrazine to GaAs(110) has been reported on. Within experimental error, a classical dielectric model quantitatively reproduces measurements of the distance-dependent lifetime for emitter-surface separations from 430 to 20 Å. Analysis of the energy transfer demonstrates that the molecular electronic excitation is dissipated through the creation of electron-hole pairs in the solid by the high-wave-vector components of the dipole near field.

Structure of the As Vacancies on GaAs(110) Surfaces

We report a comprehensive study of the As vacancies ({ital V}){sub As} in the GaAs(110) surface via {ital ab} {ital initio} total energy minimization. Previous scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images of the {ital V}{sub As} in {ital p}-type GaAs(110) were interpreted with a structure with outward movement of the Ga next to the vacancy. While our simulation of the STM images, using {ital ab} {ital initio} wave functions, agrees with experiment, our total energy minimization suggests, however, inward movement of Ga. The effect of oxygen vacancies on the binding interactions of NH3 with rutile TiO2(110) -1×1

A series of NH3 temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) spectra was taken after the NH3 dose at 70 K on rutile TiO2(110)-1×1 surfaces with the oxygen vacancy (VO) concentrations of ~0% (p-TiO2) and 5% (r-TiO2), respectively, to study the effect of VO’s on the desorption energy of NH3 as a function of the coverage, θ. Our results show that at zero coverage limit, the desorption energy of NH3 on r-TiO2 is 115 kJ/mol, which is 10 kJ/mol less than that on p-TiO2.
