Novel CP-violating effects in B decays from a charged Higgs boson in a two-Higgs-doublet model for the top quark

We explore charged-Higgs CP-violating effects in a specific type III two-Higgs-doublet model which is theoretically attractive as it accommodates the large mass of the top quark in a natural fashion. Two new CP-violating phases arise from the right-handed up quark sector. We consider CP violation in both neutral and charged B decays. Some of the important findings are as follows. (1) Large direct-CP asymmetry is found to be possible for B{sup {+-}}{yields}{psi}/JK{sup {+-}}. (2) A sizable DD(bar sign) mixing effect at the percent level is found to be admissible despite the stringent constraints from the data on KK(bar sign) mixing,more »« less

Towards a composite Higgs and a partially composite top quark

We have calculated quantities of interest to a theory of compositeness. The lattice model, approximating the candidate theory, is the SU(4) gauge theory coupled to fermions in two color representations. For the composite Higgs, a current correlator gives one of the ingredients of the effective Higgs potential. For the partially composite top quark, we have hyperbaryon matrix elements that govern mixing of the fundamental quark with its heavy composite partner. The matrix elements turn out to be so small that the theory is disfavored as a source of a realistic top mass.

Two-loop renormalization-group-improved top-quark and Higgs-boson masses in the top-quark condensate model

We study the sensitivity of the top-quark and Higgs-boson masses in the top-quark condensate model to two-loop radiative corrections. The composite theory, including a higher-dimensional Suzuki operator, provides the two-loop renormalization-group equations of the standard model with ultraviolet boundary conditions. Both the top-quark and the Higgs-boson masses vary by a few GeV with respect to their values in the one-loop calculation.
