Coincident structural and magnetic order in ${BaFe}_{2} {({As}_{1 - x} P_{x})}_{2}$ revealed by high-resolution neutron diffraction

We present neutron dffraction analysis of BaFe₂(As_1-xP_x)₂ over a wide temperature (10 to 300 K) and compositional (0.11 < x < 0.79) range, including the normal state, the magnetically ordered state, and the superconducting state. The paramagnetic to spin-density wave and orthorhombic to tetragonal transitions are first order and coincident within the sensitivity of our measurements (~ 0:5 K). Extrapolation of the orthorhombic order parameter down to zero suggests that structural quantum criticality cannot exist at compositions higher than x = 0.28, which is much lower than values determined using other methods, but in good agreement with our observations ofmore »« less

Suppression of magnetic order in ${CaCo}_{1.86} {As}_{2}$ with Fe substitution: Magnetization, neutron diffraction, and x-ray diffraction studies of $Ca {({Co}_{1 - x} {Fe}_{x})}_{y} {As}_{2}$

Magnetization, neutron diffraction, and high-energy x-ray diffraction results for Sn-flux grown single-crystal samples of Ca(Co_1–xFe_x)_yAs₂, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, 1.86 ≤ y ≤ 2, are presented and reveal that A-type antiferromagnetic order, with ordered moments lying along the c axis, persists for x ≲ 0.12(1). The antiferromagnetic order is smoothly suppressed with increasing x, with both the ordered moment and Néel temperature linearly decreasing. Stripe-type antiferromagnetic order does not occur for x ≤ 0.25, nor does ferromagnetic order for x up to at least x = 0.104, and a smooth crossover from the collapsed-tetragonal (cT) phase of CaCo_1.86As₂ tomore »« less

Neutron diffraction study on magnetic structures and transitions in ${Sr}_{2} {Cr}_{3} {As}_{2} O_{2}$

Sr₂Cr₃As₂O₂ is composed of alternating square-lattice CrO₂ and Cr₂As₂ stacking layers, where CrO₂ is isostructural to the CuO₂ building-block of cuprate high-T_c superconductors and Cr₂As₂ to Fe₂As₂ of Fe-based superconductors. Current interest in this material is raised by theoretic prediction of possible superconductivity. In this neutron powder diffraction study, we discovered that magnetic moments of Cr(II) ions in the Cr₂As₂ sublattice develop a C-type antiferromagnetic structure below 590 K, and the moments of Cr(I) in the CrO₂ sublattice form the La₂CuO₄-like antiferromagnetic order below 291 K. Magnetic properties of the itinerant A- type antiferromagnet ${CaCo}_{2} P_{2}$ studied by ${}^{59}{Co}$ and ${}^{31}P$ nuclear magnetic resonance

⁵⁹Co and ³¹P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements in external magnetic and zero magnetic fields have been performed to investigate the magnetic properties of the A-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) CaCo₂P₂. NMR data, especially the nuclear spin lattice relaxation rates 1/T₁ exhibiting a clear peak, provide clear evidence for the AFM transition at a Néel temperature of T_N ~ 110 K. The magnetic fluctuations in the paramagnetic state were found to be three-dimensional ferromagnetic, suggesting ferromagnetic interaction between Co spins in the ab plane characterizes the spin correlations in the paramagnetic state.
