Charge order in BiO[sub 2] planes of bismuth-based high-temperature superconductors

We present a model study of the ground state of a BiO[sub 2] plane of bismuth-based high-temperature superconductors using an extended three-band Hubbard model in which the hole correlations are treated by a [ital local] [ital ansatz] method. It is found that the doped holes have [similar to]65% oxygen character for realistic parameters, similarly as within a CuO[sub 2] plane of copper-based superconductors. The calculated phase diagrams demonstrate that the charge order is stable for nearly degenerate Bi(6[ital s]) and O(2[ital p]) levels and disappears gradually with hole doping for realistic parameters.

Spin- and charge-fluctuation effects on dynamic conductivity in Cu-O plane superconductors

A self-consistent microscopic theory for the 2D Hubbard Hamiltonian and additional electron-phonon interaction yields below {Tc} a gap in the quasiparticle decay rate as well as in the spin and charge fluctuation spectra. The mass enhancement and the quasiparticle decay rate exhibit in the normal state marginal' Fermi liquid behavior, while in the superconducting state the quasi particle character is restored. These properties lead to anomalous behavior of the dynamic conductivity: considered as a function of temperature, a peak evolves at {Tc} as the frequency is decreased well below 2{Delta}. Weak antilocalization and universal conductance fluctuations in bismuth telluro-sulfide topological insulators

We report on van der Waals epitaxial growth, materials characterization, and magnetotransport experiments in crystalline nanosheets of Bismuth Telluro-Sulfide (BTS). Highly layered, good-quality crystalline nanosheets of BTS are obtained on SiO{sub 2} and muscovite mica. Weak-antilocalization (WAL), electron-electron interaction-driven insulating ground state and universal conductance fluctuations are observed in magnetotransport experiments on BTS devices. Temperature, thickness, and magnetic field dependence of the transport data indicate the presence of two-dimensional surface states along with bulk conduction, in agreement with theoretical models. Fluctuation-induced in-plane magnetoconductivity in bilayered superconductors

In this paper the authors summarize some of their theoretical results for the paraconductivity and for the fluctuation-induced in-plane magnetoconductivity in the weak magnetic field limit of layered superconductors with several interlayer separations. Fluctuation diamagnetism near surfaces and twinning planes in superconductors

Fluctuations of the magnetic moment and of the specific heat near surfaces and twinning planes in superconductors are studied. Fluctuations near a surface yield an additional contribution to the effect of the usual bulk fluctuations on the diamagnetic moment. Such an additional contribution has a singularity near a temperature T/sub c/3(H), which is higher than the bulk superconducting transition temperature in a magnetic field T/sub c/2(H). Depending on the strength of the magnetic field, the singularity of the additional contribution to the magnetic moment can be either logarithmic (strong fields) or of square-root type (weak fields).
