The ²³Na(α,p) ²⁶Mg and ²³Na(α,n) ²⁶Al reactions are important for our understanding of the ²⁶Al abundance in massive stars. The aim of this work is to report on a direct and simultaneous measurement of these astrophysically important reactions using an active target system. The reactions were investigated in inverse kinematics using ⁴He as the active target gas in the detector. We measured the excitation functions in the energy range of about 2 to 6 MeV in the center of mass. We have found that the cross sections of the ²³Na(α,p) ²⁶Mg and the ²³Na(α,n) ²⁶Al reactions are in good agreementmore »« less

Experimental searches for neutrinoless double-β decay offer one of the best opportunities to look for physics beyond the standard model. Detecting this decay would confirm the Majorana nature of the neutrino, and a measurement of its half-life can be used to determine the absolute neutrino mass scale. Important to both tasks is an accurate knowledge of the Q value of the double-β decay. The LEBIT Penning trap mass spectrometer was used for the first direct experimental determination of the ⁹⁶Zr double-β decay Q value: Q_ββ=3355.85(15) keV. Investigation of the ${}^{14}C + α$ molecular configuration in ${}^{18}O$ by means of transfer and sequential decay reaction

A multinucleon transfer and cluster-decay experiment, namely ⁹Be(¹³C,¹⁸O*→¹⁴C+α)α, was performed at a beam energy of 65 MeV. Resonant states in 18O from 7 to 19 MeV, including some newly observed ones, are reconstructed with high resolution, based on the coincident detection of various combinations of the final fragments. Here, the α-decay branching ratios for 14 states are extracted from both the invariant-mass and the missing-mass measurements. Angular correlation analysis was conducted for the 10.3-MeV (4⁺) state. The present work supports the existence of the positive-parity rotational band associated with the ¹⁴C+α molecular structure in ¹⁸O, but the negative-parity band membersmore » were not identified.« less
