Superstring flux compactifications can stabilize all moduli while leading to an enormous number of vacua solutions, each leading to different 4−d laws of physics. While the string landscape provides at present the only plausible explanation for the size of the cosmological constant, it may also predict the form of weak scale supersymmetry which is expected to emerge. Rather general arguments suggest a power-law draw to large soft terms, but these are subject to an anthropic selection of a not-too-large value for the weak scale. Results from a High-Sensitivity Search for Cosmic Axions

We report the first results of a high-sensitivity ({approximately}10{sup {minus}23} W) search for light halo axions through their conversion to microwave photons. At the 90{percent} confidence level, we exclude a Kim-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov axion of mass 2.9{times}10{sup {minus}6} to 3.3{times}10{sup {minus}6} eV as the dark matter in the halo of our galaxy. {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}

Status of the large-scale dark-matter axion search

If axions constitute the dark matter of our galactic halo they can be detected by their conversion into monochromatic microwave photons in a high-Q microwave cavity permeated by a strong magnetic field. A large-scale experiment is under construction at LLNL to search for halo axions in the mass range 1.3 - 13 {mu}eV, where axions may constitute closure density of the universe. Results from the high-brightness x-ray spectroscopy beamline in the 2-5 keV region at the ALS

Beamline 9.3.1 at the Advanced Light Source (ALS) is a windowless beamline, covering the 1-6 keV photon-energy range, designed to achieve the goal of high brightness at the sample for use by programs in x-ray atomic and molecular spectroscopy, materials science, biology, and x-ray optical development at the ALS. X-ray-absorption and time-of-flight photoelectron-photoion coincidence measurements in the 2-5 keV photon-energy range, as well as the flux, resolution, spot size, and stability of the x-ray beam will be discussed.
Weak scale supersymmetry

An introduction to the ideas and current state of weak scale supersymmetry is given. It is shown that LEP data on Z decays has already excluded two of the most elegant models of weak scale supersymmetry. 14 refs.
