We find the entropy of N=2 extreme black holes associated with general Calabi-Yau moduli space and the prepotential F=d{sub ABC}(X{sup A}X{sup B}X{sup C}/X{sup 0}). We show that for arbitrary d{sub ABC} and black hole charges p and q the entropy-area formula depends on combinations of these charges and parameters d{sub ABC}. These combinations are the solutions of a simple system of algebraic equations. We give a few examples of particular Calabi-Yau moduli spaces for which this system has an explicit solution. Hierarchies from D-brane instantons in globally defined calabi-yau orientifolds

We construct the first globally consistent semi-realistic Type I string vacua on an elliptically fibered manifold where the zero modes of the Euclidean D1-instanton sector allow for the generation of non-perturbative Majorana masses of an intermediate scale. In another class of global models, a D1-brane instanton can generate a Polonyi-type superpotential breaking supersymmetry at an exponentially suppressed scale.

Stabilizing all geometric moduli in heterotic Calabi-Yau vacua

We propose a scenario to stabilize all geometric moduli - that is, the complex structure, Kähler moduli and the dilaton - in smooth heterotic Calabi-Yau compactifications without Neveu-Schwarz three-form flux. This is accomplished using the gauge bundle required in any heterotic compactification, whose perturbative effects on the moduli are combined with non-perturbative corrections. We argue that, for appropriate gauge bundles, all complex structure and a large number of other moduli can be perturbatively stabilized - in the most restrictive case, leaving only one combination of Kähler moduli and the dilaton as a flat direction. Calabi-Yau metrics for quotients and complete intersections

We extend previous computations of Calabi-Yau metrics on projective hypersurfaces to free quotients, complete intersections, and free quotients of complete intersections. In particular, we construct these metrics on generic quintics, four-generation quotients of the quintic, Schoen Calabi-Yau complete intersections and the quotient of a Schoen manifold with Z₃ x Z₃ fundamental group that was previously used to construct a heterotic standard model. Various numerical investigations into the dependence of Donaldson's algorithm on the integration scheme, as well as on the Kähler and complex structure moduli, are also performed.

Proposed explanation of tau lepton decay puzzle: discrepancy between the measured and the theoretical tau lifetimes

I propose an explanation of the current discrepancy between the measured world average value and the theoretical value of the [tau] lepton lifetime. I argue that there exist common systematic errors in many of the experiments that use 3-prong [tau] decays for the lifetime measurement. These systematic effects always shift the measurement towards longer lifetimes, and are caused by the small opening angle of 3-prong [tau] decays and limited tracking chamber ability to resolve nearby hits. The theoretical [tau] lifetime agrees well with the measured world average value from the 1-prong [tau] decays.
