Kinetic-energy dissipation and fluctuations in strongly damped heavy-ion collisions within the stochastic mean-field approach

Microscopic mean-field approaches have been successful in describing the most probable reaction outcomes in low-energy heavy-ion reactions. However, those approaches are known to severely underestimate dispersions of observables around the average values that has limited their applicability. Recently it has been shown that a quantal transport approach based on the stochastic mean-field (SMF) theory significantly improves the description, while its application has been limited so far to fragment mass and charge dispersions. Stochastic approaches to dynamics of heavy ion collisions, the case of thermal fission

In order to study the influence of fluctuations on various phenomena linked to heavy ion collisions, a Langevin equation has been derived from a microscopic model. Parameters entering this equation are completely determined from microscopic quantities characterizing nuclear matter. This equation has been applied to various phenomena at intermediate energies. This paper focuses on large amplitude motions and especially thermal fission. Fission rate is calculated and compared to experimental results.

[ital K][sup +] production far below the free nucleon-nucleon threshold in heavy-ion collisions

The [ital K][sup +] production cross section far below the free nucleon-nucleon production threshold is estimated in [sup 12]C+[sup 12]C collisions using simulations of the Boltzmann and the Boltzmann-Langevin equations. Fluctuations increase substantially the cross sections especially at low beam energies. We also give an estimate of the [ital K][sup +] yield in [sup 42]Ca+[sup 42]Ca collisions at an incident energy of 90 MeV/nucleon in order to compare our result to recent experimental data obtained in a similar system by Julien [ital et] [ital al].
