© 2016 American Physical Society.The distribution of single-particle strength in Ni67,69 was characterized with one-neutron knockout reactions from intermediate-energy Ni68,70 secondary beams, selectively populating neutron-hole configurations at N=39 and 41, respectively. The spectroscopic strengths deduced from the measured partial cross sections to the individual final states, as tagged by their γ-ray decays, are used to identify and quantify neutron configurations in the wave functions. While Ni69 compares well with shell-model predictions, the results for Ni67 challenge the validity of current effective shell-model Hamiltonians by revealing discrepancies that cannot be explained so far. Low-lying excited states in P^38,40 have been identified in the β decay of T_z=+5,+6, Si^38,40. Based on the allowed nature of the Gamow-Teller (GT) decay observed, these states are assigned spin and parity of 1⁺ and are core-excited 1p1h intruder states with a parity opposite to the ground state. The occurrence of intruder states at low energies highlights the importance of pairing and quadrupole correlation energies in lowering the intruder states despite the N=20 shell gap. High-spin yrast structure of ${}^{204}{Hg}$ from the decay of a four-hole, $22^{+}$ isomer

We present that a high-spin isomer with τ > 700 ns has been found in ²⁰⁴Hg, populated in reactions of 1360-MeV ²⁰⁸Pb and 330-MeV ⁴⁸Ca beams with a thick ²³⁸U target and a 1450-MeV ²⁰⁸Pb beam on a thick ²⁰⁸Pb target. The observed γ-ray decay of the isomer has established the yrast states below it, including another isomer with τ = 33(3) ns. The experimental results are compared with shell-model calculations that include four holes in the configuration space between ¹³²Sn and ²⁰⁸Pb. The available spectroscopic information, including transition strengths, total conversion, and angular correlation coefficients, together with the observed agreement with the calculations, allows spin, parity, and configuration assignments to be proposed for the experimental states. β-delayed γ decay of 20Mg and the ${}^{19}{Ne} {(p, γ)}^{20} Na$ breakout reaction in Type I X-ray bursts

Certain astrophysical environments such as thermonuclear outbursts on accreting neutron stars (Type-I X-ray bursts) are hot enough to allow for breakout from the Hot CNO hydrogen burning cycles to the rapid proton capture (rp) process. An important breakout reaction sequence is ¹⁵O(α,γ)¹⁹Ne(p,γ)²⁰Na and the ¹⁹Ne(p,γ)²⁰Na reaction rate is expected to be dominated by a single resonance at 457 keV above the proton threshold in 20Na. The resonance strength and, hence, reaction rate depends strongly on whether this ²⁰Na state at an excitation energy of 2647 keV has spin and parity of 1⁺ or 3⁺.
