This work presents detailed analyses of magnetoconductivities in a Weyl semimetal within the Born and self-consistent Born approximations. In the presence of charged impurities, linear magnetoresistance can occur when the charge carriers are mainly from the zeroth (n = 0) Landau level. Interestingly, the linear magnetoresistance is very robust against changes of temperature as long as the charge carriers come mainly from the zeroth Landau level. We denote this parameter regime as the high-field regime. Topological quantization of the spin Hall effect in two-dimensional paramagnetic semiconductors

We propose models of two-dimensional paramagnetic semiconductors where the intrinsic spin Hall effect is exactly quantized in integer units of a topological charge. The model describes a topological insulator in the bulk and a 'holographic metal' at the edge, where the number of extended edge states crossing the Fermi level is dictated by (exactly equal to) the bulk topological charge. We also demonstrate the spin Hall effect explicitly in terms of the spin accumulation caused by the adiabatic flux insertion.

Anomalous Hall effect in the phonon thermal conductivity of paramagnetic dielectrics

A theory of the phonon Hall effect during heat transfer in a paramagnetic dielectric discovered by Strohm et al. [Phys. Rev. 95, 155901 (2005)] is developed. The heat flux emerging in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field and to the temperature gradient is associated with the interaction of magnetic ions with the oscillating crystal field. In crystals with an arbitrary phonon spectrum, this interaction induces elliptic polarization of phonons. On the other hand, for any type of scattering, the temperature gradient forms part of the phonon density matrix, which is nondiagonal in modes.
