Using a simple numerical model of skyrmions in a two-dimensional system interacting with a quasi-one-dimensional periodic substrate under combined dc and ac drives where the dc drive is applied perpendicular to the substrate periodicity, we show that a rich variety of novel phase-locking dynamics can occur due to the influence of the Magnus term on the skyrmion dynamics. Here we numerically examine driven skyrmions interacting with a periodic quasi-one-dimensional substrate where the driving force is applied either parallel or perpendicular to the substrate periodicity direction. For perpendicular driving, the particles in a purely overdamped system simply slide along the substrate minima; however, for skyrmions where the Magnus force is relevant, we find that a rich variety of dynamics can arise. Here, we examine the dynamics of an individually driven skyrmion moving through a background lattice of skyrmions coupled to a 2D periodic substrate as we vary the ratio of the number of skyrmions to the number of pinning sites across commensurate and incommensurate conditions. As the skyrmion density increases, the skyrmion Hall angle is nonmonotonic, dropping to low or zero values in commensurate states and rising to an enhanced value in incommensurate states. We investigate the phonon spectra of two-dimensional liquid dusty plasmas on a one-dimensional periodic substrate using numerical simulations. The propagation of the waves across the potential wells of the substrate is inhibited due to the confinement of the dust particles by the substrate minima. If the substrate wells are narrow or deep, one-dimensional chains of particles are formed in each minimum, and the longitudinal motion of an individual chain dominates the propagation of waves along the potential wells of the substrate. Structures and diffusion of two-dimensional dusty plasmas on one-dimensional periodic substrates

Using numerical simulations, we examine the structure and diffusion of a two-dimensional dusty plasma (2DDP) in the presence of a one-dimensional periodic substrate (1DPS) as a function of increasing substrate strength. Both the pair correlation function perpendicular to the substrate modulation and the mean-squared displacement (MSD) of dust particles are calculated. It is found that both the structure and dynamics of 2DDP exhibit strong anisotropic effects, due to the applied 1DPS.
