Spin thermoelectric effects in an Aharnov-Bohm ring with a magnetic impurity quantum dot (QD) are theoretically investigated by using the nonequilibrium Green's function method. It is found that due to the exchange coupling between the impurity and the electrons in QD, spin output power, and efficiency can be significant and be further modulated by the gate voltage. The spin thermoelectric effect can be modulated effectively by adjusting the Rashba spin-orbit interaction (RSOI) and the magnetic flux. Kondo effect and spin-glass freezing of the magnetic impurities Cr, Mn, and Fe in superconducting palladium hydride

Through low-field ac susceptibility measurements we have determined the depression of the superconducting transition temperature T/sub c/ in palladium hydride (T/sub c/0 = 9.3 K) as a function of impurity concentration x for Cr, Mn, and Fe. For Cr and Fe similar values for the initial T/sub c/ depression were found, i.e., -150 K/at. % Cr and -145 K/at. % Fe. From resistivity experiments we are able to estimate the Kondo temperatures T/sub K/, i.e., T/sub K/approx. =10 K for Cr and T/sub K/approx. =5 K for Fe. Spin-orbit quantum impurity in a topological magnet

Quantum states induced by single-atomic impurities are at the frontier of physics and material science. While such states have been reported in high-temperature superconductors and dilute magnetic semiconductors, they are unexplored in topological magnets which can feature spin-orbit tunability. Here we use spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S) to study the engineered quantum impurity in a topological magnet Co₃Sn₂S₂. We find that each substituted In impurity introduces a striking localized bound state. Magnetic impurity as a local probe of the $U(1)$ quantum spin liquid with spinon Fermi surface

We solve the problem of a magnetic impurity coupled to a U(1) quantum spin liquid with a spinon Fermi surface, and we compute the impurity spectral function. Using the slave rotor mean-field approach combined with gauge field fluctuations, we find that a peak located at the top of the lower Hubbard band and one at the bottom of the upper Hubbard band can emerge in the impurity spectral function. The peaks at the Hubbard band edges arise from the gauge field fluctuation-induced spinon-chargon binding inside the spinon Kondo screening cloud of the magnetic impurity.
