Complex structures and isometries in the (2,0) supersymmetric non-linear sigma model

In this paper a study is made of those (2,0) supersymmetric non-linear sigma-models which are invariant under the action of an isometry group; this class includes the (2,0) supersymmetric Wess-Zumiono-Novikov-Witten models. If, as in the case of the WZNW model, some of the isometries are not holomorphic, then those isometries do not commute with the second supersymmetry and closing the algebra appears to give an infinite number of supersymmetries. It is shown that if any non-holomorphic isometry is accompanied by a compensating deformation of the complex structure, then the symmetry algebra closes without the need to introduce any new symmetries,more »« less
N=(2,0) superstring as the underlying theory of self-dual Yang-Mills theory

In this paper, the authors study the condition of vanishing of beta-functions in the (2,0) heterotic [sigma]-model coupled to background Yang-Mills field. The condition of vanishing [beta]-functions restricts the background Yang-Mills fields to be self-dual in the critical real four-dimensional target space-time with the signature (2,2). This supports the suggestion of Ooguri and Vafa that the N + (2,0) heterotic superstring theory is, indeed, the fundamental underlying theory of all lower-dimensional (bosonic) soluble systems. It is shown that N = (2,0) heterotic [sigma]-models in superspace couple precisely to the prepotential of the J-formulation of SDYUM theory.

The use of the diffractometer DARKP-2,0 with gas-discharge-type coordinate detector for the x-ray structure investigation of radioactive materials

The authors report on the results of an investigation of radioactive specimens on a diffractometer DARKP-2,0, expecting a substantial shortening of the measuring time and a corresponding reduction of the radiation dose to which the experimenters would be subjected. The investigations were carried out with a specimen of zirconium prepared in the form of a microsection, with the use of monochromatized CuKalpha radiation.

Optical emission from CO/sup +/(*) formed in electronic energy transfer collisions between metastable neon atoms and ground-state carbon monoxide molecules has been measured in the spectral range 300--870 nm by a beam plus scattering gas technique. An indirect procedure allows the estimation of the relative reactivity of the two metastable states present in the beam. (AIP)
