We theoretically investigated magnetoresistance curves in quasiperiodic magnetic multilayers for two different growth directions, namely, [110] and [100]. We considered identical ferromagnetic layers separated by nonmagnetic layers with two different thicknesses chosen based on the Fibonacci sequence. Using parameters for Fe/Cr multilayers, four terms were included in our description of the magnetic energy: Zeeman, cubic anisotropy, bilinear coupling, and biquadratic coupling. The minimum energy was determined by the gradient method and the equilibrium magnetization directions found were used to calculate magnetoresistance curves. Anomalous low-temperature magnetoresistance dips in sputtered ferromagnetic thin films and multilayers

A set of ferromagnetic thin films and multilayers containing 3d metals (Fe, Co) in different amounts was prepared by rf sputtering. Each sample exhibits a specific magnetic and magnetoresistive behavior, as expected for materials having different saturation magnetizations, magnetic anisotropies, and surface-to-volume ratios. From room temperature down to about 10 K, the magnetoresistance is explained in terms of well-known mechanisms; at low fields, a negative magnetoresistance is measured. Between {approx}10 and 30 K, the zero-field electrical resistance appears to be dominated by electron-phonon scattering. Anomalous field dependence of magnetoresistance in Fe/Gd multilayered ferrimagnets

The magnetoresistance of Fe/Gd ferrimagnetic multilayered films prepared by sputtering was investigated. The longitudinal magnetoresistance {rho}{sub {ital l}} increases first, followed by a deep decrease, and then increases again, with an increasing applied field. The transverse magnetoresistance {rho}{sub {ital t}} behaves in an opposite manner such that {rho}{sub {ital l}} and {rho}{sub {ital t}} play a crossover at an intermediate field. This new type of field dependence of {rho}{sub {ital l}} and {rho}{sub {ital t}} can be explained in terms of the spin flop of artificial ferrimagnetism which gives rise to an anomalous up-turn curve in magnetization versus field.

Self-similar pseudobands and localization of magnetoplasmons in finite multilayered Fibonacci superlattices

The collective plasmon-polariton excitations in finite Fibonacci semiconductor superlattices, which are subjected to a static magnetic field applied parallel to the interfaces, are studied by using local-field theory with retardation. We find that for a given in-plane wave vector, the discrete modes are composed of pseudobands and show rich self-similar patterns. The dispersion relations of the modes are obviously modified by the application of the magnetic field, and the propagation of the surface waves shows remarkable nonreciprocal behavior in the field. Regular and anomalous quantum diffusion in the Fibonacci kicked rotator

We study the dynamics of a quantum rotator, impulsively kicked according to the almost-periodic Fibonacci sequence. A special numerical technique allows us to carry on this investigation for as many as 10{sup 12} kicks. It is shown that above a critical kick strength, the excitation of the system is well described by regular diffusion, while below this border it becomes anomalous and subdiffusive. A law for the dependence of the exponent of anomalous subdiffusion on the kick strength is established numerically.
