Inspired by a recent study by Iancu, Mueller, and Triantafyllopoulos [Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 202001 (2022)], we propose semi-inclusive diffractive deep inelastic scattering (SIDDIS) to investigate the gluon tomography in the nucleon and nuclei at small x. The relevant diffractive quark and gluon parton distribution functions (DPDFs) can be computed in terms of the color dipole S-matrices in the fundamental and adjoint representations, respectively.

Beam-Target Double-Spin Asymmetry $A_{LT}$ in Charged Pion Production from Deep Inelastic Scattering on a Transversely Polarized ${}^{3}{He}$ Target at $1.4 < Q^{2} < 2.7 {GeV}^{2}$

We report the first measurement of the double-spin asymmetry A_LT for charged pion electroproduction in semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering on a transversely polarized ³He target. The kinematics focused on the valence quark region, 0.16 < x < 0.35 with 1.4 < Q² < 2.7 GeV². The corresponding neutron A_LT asymmetries were extracted from the measured ³He asymmetries and proton/³He cross section ratios using the effective polarization approximation. These new data probe the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution function g_1T^q and therefore provide access to quark spin-orbit correlations. Probing the Small- $x$ Gluon Tomography in Correlated Hard Diffractive Dijet Production in Deep Inelastic Scattering

The close connection between the quantum phase space Wigner distribution of small-x gluons and the color dipole scattering amplitude is investigated, and studying it experimentally is proposed in the hard diffractive dijet production at the planned electron-ion collider. The angular correlation between the nucleon recoiled momentum and the dijet transverse momentum probes the nontrivial correlation in the phase space Wigner distribution. This experimental study not only provides three-dimensional tomographic pictures of gluons inside high energy protons - it gives a unique and interesting signal for the small-x dynamics with QCD evolution effects.
