Sub-barrier Fusion Enhancement in Neutron-Rich Radioactive ¹³²Sn on ⁶⁴Ni

Evaporation residue cross sections have been measured using neutron-rich radioactive 132Sn beams incident on a 64Ni target in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. This is the first experiment using accelerated 132Sn beams to study nuclear reaction mechanisms. The average beam intensity was 2x 104 particles per second and the smallest cross section measured was less than 5 mb. A large sub-barrier fusion enhancement was observed compared to evaporation residue cross sections for 64Ni on stable even Sn isotopes. Consistent description of hindrance in sub-barrier fusion of {sup 48}Ca with {sup 36}S, {sup 48}Ca, and {sup 96}Zr

Recent fusion reaction data for the systems {sup 36}S+{sup 48}Ca, {sup 48}Ca+{sup 48}Ca, and {sup 96}Zr+{sup 48}Ca are analyzed within the coupled-channel formalism. The heavy-ion entrance channel potential is calculated employing an improved double-folding prescription. The nonlocal kernel arising from the knock-on exchange component of the effective N-N interaction is localized within the lowest order of the Perey-Saxon approach, including full recoil. The single-particle densities entering the folding integrals are prescribed according to the density matrix expansion method. /sup 36/S(/sup 14/C,x-italicny-italicpz-italic..cap alpha gamma..) reactions were used to extend our knowledge of the high-spin states of /sup 47/Ti, /sup 47/Sc, /sup 44/Ca, /sup 45/Ca, and /sup 48/Ti. The decay schemes were constructed from ..gamma gamma..-coincidence data and ..gamma..-ray angular distributions and excitation functions. The angular distributions also provided information on spin-parity assignments and multipole mixing ratios. Lifetime information was extracted from analysis of the ..gamma..-ray Doppler shifts observed in both the angular distribution and ..gamma gamma..-coincidence data.
