A family-universal anomalous U(1) in string models as the origin of supersymmetry breaking and squark degeneracy

Recently a promising mechanism for supersymmetry breaking that utilizes both an anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry and an effective mass term m {approx} 1TeV of certain relevant fields has been proposed. In this paper we examine whether such a mechanism can emerge in superstring derived free fermionic models. We observe that certain three generation string solutions, though not all, lead to an anomalous U(1) which couples universally to all three families. Electroweak symmetry breaking from supersymmetry breaking with a bosonic seesaw mechanism

We introduce the idea of bosonic seesaw mechanism in analogy with the seesaw mechanism. Bosonic seesaw is a new symmetry breaking mechanism, and we apply it to explain electroweak symmetry breaking as an inevitable consequence of supersymmetry breaking. The breaking of electroweak symmetry occurs at tree level once supersymmetry is broken. Absence of color/charge breaking in this model is related to doublet-triplet splitting in the grand unified theory. An extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with a weak triplet shows very interesting results, especially when {mu}=0. In a supersymmetry quantum chromodynamics (with a small Lagrangian mass of the matter) and in an SU(5) theory with two anti-5-plets and two 10-plets (with a small Yukawa constant) there is a spontaneous breaking of color; vector bosons become very heavy; a weak-coupling theory arises; and there is no confinement.
Loop corrections to radiative breaking of electroweak symmetry in supersymmetry

One-loop corrections to the radiative breaking of electroweak symmetry in supergravity unified models are analyzed. It is shown that in a physically interesting domain of parameter space there is a large cancellation among the contributions of the first two generations of squarks and the three generations of sleptons to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) equations. Partial cancellations in other sectors are also found. These cancellations reduce the effect of the one-loop contributions to the VEV equations.
