Effect of impurities on the specific heat of the spin-triplet superconductor Sr{sub 2}RuO{sub 4}

The authors have investigated the specific heat of single crystals of the spin-triplet superconductor Sr{sub 2}RuO{sub 4} (T{sub c0} = 1.50 K) with various {Tc}. They focus on the {Tc} dependence of the specific heat jump at {Tc} and of the residual specific heat coefficient. The observed behavior is not quantitatively consistent with a model with a simple isotropic gap. They argue that inclusions of both the in-plane anisotropy of the gap and the dependence of the gap on different Fermi-surface sheets are needed to resolve this discrepancy.

Collective modes and spin fluctuations for spin-triplet superconducting state in Sr{sub 2}RuO{sub 4}

First the authors calculate the collective order parameter modes for the most promising candidates of spin-triplet p-wave pairing states in the layered perovskite structure of Sr{sub 2}RuO{sub 4}. The pairing interaction and accordingly the equations for the order parameter fluctuations are decomposed in terms of spin-triplet pairing states corresponding to the irreducible representations of the point group D{sub 4h}. Asymmetric pairing interaction and spin-orbit coupling give rise to finite frequencies of the original Goldstone modes corresponding to broken rotational symmetry. We study spin excitations in a two-dimensional p-wave superconductor with {delta}(vector sign)=d(k{sub 1}{+-}ik{sub 2}) symmetry in the context of the newly discovered superconducting Sr{sub 2}RuO{sub 4}. Sr{sub 2}RuO{sub 4} was recently discovered to be the first layered perovskite superconductor (T{sub c}=1K) containing no copper. Its normal state properties are also of interest, because it is strongly two-dimensional, like the high T{sub c} cuprates, but differs from them in the type and concentration of carriers. It thus provides researchers with a new opportunity to shed light on the relative roles of reduced dimensionality versus other aspects of the electronic structure in producing anomalous normal state properties in layered metallic oxides.
