We argue that the electroweak symmetry of the standard model (SM) could be broken via condensation of magnetic monopole bilinears. We present an extension of the SM where this could indeed happen, and where the heavy top mass is also a consequence of the magnetic interactions.

Electroweak symmetry breaking by vectorlike fermion condensation with small {ital S} and {ital T} parameters

In order to build realistic models in which electroweak symmetry is dynamically broken we should explain the smallness of the Peskin-Takeuchi {ital S} and {ital T} parameters. In accordance with the decoupling theorem, these parameters must be suppressed by SU(2){sub {ital L}}{times}U(1){sub {ital Y}} invariant masses. From this fact we can expect that if fermions with large SU(2){sub {ital L}}{times}U(1){sub {ital Y}} invariant masses undergo condensation and break electroweak symmetry, the {ital S} and {ital T} parameters can be small. Electroweak symmetry breaking by fourth-generation condensates and the neutrino spectrum

We consider a new mechanism for dynamical symmetry breaking of the electroweak symmetries involving condensates of fourth-generation quarks and leptons. A dynamical generalization of the seesaw mechanism is proposed based upon the BCS theory in which a neutrino condensate gives rise to right-handed-neutrino Majorana masses and all associated spin-zero bosons are composite. The fourth-generation neutrino is naturally heavier than {ital M}{sub {ital Z}}/2 and the scale of new physics is bounded above. The renormalization-group equations for the effective Lagrangian of this model are derived and used to solve the model. Implications for neutrino masses are discussed.

Top quark condensate models of electroweak symmetry breaking

The top quark is heavy and its mass comparable to the scale of electroweak symmetry breaking. This talk examines the possible role of the top quark in generating the observed electroweak symmetry breaking including the masses of the W and Z bosons.
Electroweak model with dynamical symmetry breaking by color sextet quark condensates

An alternative to spontaneous electroweak symmetry breaking in the standard Weinberg-Salam model is presented. Theoretical and phenomenological implications of two new flavors of color sextet quarks forming condensates, which induce dynamical breaking of the electroweak symmetry, are investigated. The correct W/sup +/-/ and Z/sup 0/ vector boson masses are achieved in the dynamical symmetry breaking scheme because the mass scale at which the color sextets condense occurs at a value exponentially greater than the condensation scale of the color triplet quarks.
