An electroweak singlet scalar can couple to pairs of vector bosons through loop-induced dimension five operators. Compared to a Standard Model Higgs boson, the singlet decay widths in the diphotons and Z{gamma} channels are generically enhanced, while decays into massive final states like WW and ZZ are kinematically disfavored. The overall event rates into {gamma}{gamma} and Z{gamma} can exceed the Standard Model expectations by orders of magnitude. Such a singlet may appear as a resonant signal in the {gamma}{gamma} and Z{gamma} channels, even with a mass above the WW kinematic threshold.

We consider a minimal extension of the standard model where a real, gauge singlet scalar field is added to the standard spectrum. Introducing the Ansatz of universality of scalar couplings, we are led to a scenario which has a set of very distinctive and testable predictions: (i) the mixing between the standard model Higgs and the new state is near maximal, (ii) the ratio of the two Higgs mass eigenstates is fixed ({approx}{radical}(3)), (iii) the decay modes of each of the two eigenstates are standard model like. Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order Subtraction Formalism in Hadron Collisions and its Application to Higgs-Boson Production at the Large Hadron Collider

We consider higher-order QCD corrections to the production of colorless high-mass systems (lepton pairs, vector bosons, Higgs bosons, etc.) in hadron collisions. We propose a new formulation of the subtraction method to numerically compute arbitrary infrared-safe observables for this class of processes. To cancel the infrared divergences, we exploit the universal behavior of the associated transverse-momentum (q{sub T}) distributions in the small-q{sub T} region. The method is illustrated in general terms up to the next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD perturbation theory. As a first explicit application, we study Higgs-boson production through gluon fusion. Nonuniversal scalar mass scenario with Higgs funnel region of supersymmetric dark matter: A signal-based analysis for the Large Hadron Collider

We perform a multilepton channel analysis in the context of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe compatible points in a model with nonuniversal scalar masses, which admits a Higgs funnel region of supersymmetry dark matter even for a small tan{beta}. In addition to two- and three-lepton final states, four-lepton events, too, are shown to be useful for this purpose. We also compare the collider signatures in similar channels for Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe compatible points in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) framework with similar gluino masses. Some definite features of such nonuniversal scenario emerge from the analysis.

Flavor changing neutral currents, an extended scalar sector, and the Higgs production rate at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We study extensions of the standard model with additional colored scalar fields which can couple directly to quarks. Natural suppression of flavor changing neutral currents implies minimal flavor violation, and fixes the scalars to transform as (8,2){sub 1/2} under the SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) gauge symmetry. We explore the phenomenology of the standard model with one additional (8,2){sub 1/2} scalar, and discuss how this extension can modify flavor physics and the Higgs boson production rate at the LHC. Custodial SU(2) symmetry can be implemented for the octet scalars since they transform as a real color representation.
