We present explicit calculations of the dependence of the inelastic electron mean free path on spin direction and energy, for propagation in the bulk of the ferromagnetic metals Fe and Ni. The substrate electrons are modeled within the framework of an empirical tight-binding description of the 3d, 4s, and 4p bands combined with intra-atomic Coulomb interactions between electrons in the 3d shell. The analysis of spin-flip contributions to the inelastic mean free path incorporates the role of spin-wave emission. Theory of ion-stimulated electron emission from simple metals: Explicit calculations

We apply a description of ion-stimulated electron emission from metals developed earlier by one of us [D. L. Mills, Surf. Sci. 294, 161 (1993)] to ions which strike aluminum metal at both grazing and normal incidence. The electronic response of the substrate is modeled within the jellium picture. For grazing incidence, we employ realistic ion trajectories which allow penetration of the ions into the metal. The substrate response is described microscopically, so a proper description of short-wavelength aspects is incorporated fully in our calculations. Electrochemically Dealloyed 3D Porous Copper Nanostructure as Anode Current Collector of Li-Metal Batteries

Abstract The commercialization of high‐energy Li‐metal batteries is impeded by Li dendrites formed during electrochemical cycling and the safety hazards it causes. Here, a novel porous copper current collector that can effectively mitigate the dendritic growth of Li is reported. This porous Cu foil is fabricated via a simple two‐step electrochemical process, where Cu‐Zn alloy is electrodeposited on commercial copper foil and then Zn is electrochemically dissolved to form a 3D porous structure of Cu. Spin projection and spin current density within relativistic electronic-transport calculations

A spin projection scheme is presented which allows the decomposition of the electric conductivity into two different spin channels within fully relativistic ab initio transport calculations that account for the impact of spin-orbit coupling. This is demonstrated by calculations of the spin-resolved conductivity of Fe{sub 1-x}Cr{sub x} and Co{sub 1-x}Pt{sub x} disordered alloys on the basis of the corresponding Kubo-Greenwood equation implemented using the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker coherent-potential approximation band-structure method. In addition, results for the residual resistivity of diluted Ni-based alloys are presented that are compared to theoretical and experimental ones that rely on Mott's two-current model for spin-polarized systems.
