The diffraction of spherical waves (S waves) interacting with a periodic scattering length distribution produces characteristic intensity patterns known as Kossel and Kikuchi lines (collectively called K lines). The K-line signal can be inverted to give the three-dimensional structure of the coherent scattering length distribution surrounding the source of S waves - a process known as 'Gabor holography' or, simply, 'holography'. Phase conjugation of speckle-inhomogeneous radiation in a holographic Nd:YAG laser with a short thermal hologram

A model of the so-called short hologram, which does not exhibit in-depth diffraction deformation of the fine speckle pattern of the recording fields, is studied. The investigation is performed by the example of a thermal hologram recorded by two speckle waves, which is the output mirror of a ring laser produced as a result of this recording. This is a report on Holographic Concentrators for Solar Thermal Rocket Engines. The object of the work was to demonstrate that highly reflective holograms could be used as solar concentrators to heat liquid hydrogen for use as a propellant in satellite boost engines. The interest in this results from the need for a reliable, inexpensive alternate for conventional rockets.
Laser holographic interferometer visualization of a thermal shock wave in He II

Thermal shock waves in superfluid helium (HeII) were studied using a laser holographic interferometer. The authors succeeded in the visualization of three typical types of thermal shock: frontal, back and double shock waves, each shock front shows up through the appearance of a sharp interference fringe. The evolution of a pseudo-trapezoidal finite-amplitude temperature disturbance to a shock was observed in a series of interferograms. An evaluation procedure of holographic interferograms is presented to determine the three-dimensional temperature field and the Nusselt number of a thermally developing convection flow in the direction of the measuring beam of a holographic interferometer. In analyzing the interferogram taken at an infinite fringe field adjustment, the thermal boundary layer developing along an isothermally heated wall is divided into equidistant infinitesimal sublayers where the respective refractive indices can be assumed to be constant.
