We present microscopic coupled-cluster calculations of the spectroscopic factors for proton removal from the closed-shell oxygen isotopes {sup 14,16,22,24,28}O with a chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. We include coupling-to-continuum degrees of freedom by using a Hartree-Fock basis built from a Woods-Saxon single-particle basis. This basis treats bound and continuum states on an equal footing. We find a significant quenching of spectroscopic factors in the neutron-rich oxygen isotopes, pointing to enhanced many-body correlations induced by strong coupling to the scattering continuum above the neutron emission thresholds.

Proton transfer reactions on Sr isotopes. [Angular distributions, spectroscopic factors, 12 MeV]

The proton transfer reactions /sup 86/Sr(d,n)/sup 87/Y, /sup 87/Sr(d,n)/sup 88/Y, and /sup 88/Sr(d,n)/sup 89/Y have been investigated at 12 MeV incident deuteron energy. Spectroscopic factors are etracted from a distorted wave Born approximation analysis and compared to the spectroscopic factors extracted from the analogous (/sup 3/He,d) reactions. A comparison is also made of the (d,n) and (d,/sup 3/He) reactions to determine fractional emptiness and occupation probability of shell model orbitals. Additionally, ground state proton configurations of /sup 86/Sr and /sup 88/Sr are determined and the T/sub less-than/ states of /sup 89/Y are studied. (AIP)

Neutron-Proton Asymmetry Dependence of Spectroscopic Factors in Ar Isotopes

Spectroscopic factors have been extracted for proton-rich 34Ar and neutron-rich 46Ar using the (p, d) neutron transfer reaction. The experimental results show little reduction of the ground state neutron spectroscopic factor of the proton-rich nucleus 34Ar compared to that of 46Ar. The results suggest that correlations, which generally reduce such spectroscopic factors, do not depend strongly on the neutron-proton asymmetry of the nucleus in this isotopic region as was reported in knockout reactions. The present results are consistent with results from systematic studies of transfer reactions but inconsistent with the trends observed in knockout reaction measurements.

Role of Long-Range Correlations in the Quenching of Spectroscopic Factors

We consider the proton and neutron quasiparticle orbits around the closed-shell {sup 56}Ni and {sup 48}Ca isotopes. It is found that large model spaces (beyond the capability of shell model applications) are necessary for predicting the quenching of spectroscopic factors. The particle-vibration coupling is identified as the principal mechanism. Additional correlations - due to configuration with several particle-hole excitations - are estimated using shell model calculations and generate an extra reduction which is < or approx. 4% for most quasiparticle states. New Perspectives on Spectroscopic Factor Quenching from Reactions

The evolution of single-particle strengths as the neutron-to-proton asymmetry changes informs us of the importance of short- and long-range correlations in nuclei and has therefore been extensively studied for the last two decades. Surprisingly, the strong asymmetry dependence of these strengths and their extreme values for highly asymmetric nuclei inferred from knockout reaction measurements on a target nucleus are not consistent with what is extracted from electron-induced, transfer, and quasi-free reaction data, constituting a two-decade old puzzle.
