When bivalent ligands capable of bridging binding sites on two different receptors interact with bivalent receptors, aggregates form. The aggregates can be of two types: chains (open structures containing n receptors, n - 1 doubly bound ligands and 0, 1, or 2 singly bound ligands) and rings (closed structures containing n receptors and n doubly bound ligands). Both types of aggregates have been detected experimentally. The systems chlorine trifluoride -chlorine, chlorine trifluoride - chlorine monofluoride, and chlorine monofiuoride-chlorine were studied to determine isotopic chlorine exchange in the gas phase. The chemical reaction kinetics of the system chlorine trifluoridechlorine were studied. Special equipment suitable for studying gaseous reactions of halogen fiuorides was designed and constructed, including equipment for the study of isotope exchange in which a radioactive isotope is utilized. Proton ring formation studies on the Cornell field-reversed ion ring experiment FIREX

The goal of FIREX is to produce a field-reversed ring of greater than 500 keV protons. The ring is formed by axial cusp injection into a solenoid of an annular beam from a magnetically-insulated ion diode driven by a 1 MV, 800 kA, 150 ns pulser. The first phase of experiments using a passive flashover proton source is now complete. At 90% charge of the FIREX pulse power, the diode produces 12 mC of protons over 120 ns, while the voltage decreases from 850 to 550 kV. Counts of ring galaxies occurring in various parts of the sky, in particular in fields containing nearby clusters of galaxies, have been made in the Morphological Catalog of Galaxies. Pure ring galaxies (with a nucleus but no spiral structure) comprise 0.7% of all objects; they are 100 times less abundant than spiral galaxies. Their proportion is no greater in clusters, but regions do exist where ring galaxies are 3--5 times as common as average.
