We investigate the approach to the universal regime of the dilute unitary Fermi gas as the density is reduced to zero in a lattice model. Finite-Temperature Pairing Gap of a Unitary Fermi Gas by Quantum Monte Carlo Calculations

We calculate the one-body temperature Green's (Matsubara) function of the unitary Fermi gas via quantum Monte Carlo, and extract the spectral weight function A(p,omega) using the methods of maximum entropy and singular value decomposition. From A(p,omega) we determine the quasiparticle spectrum, which can be accurately parametrized by three functions of temperature: an effective mass m*, a mean-field potential U, and a gap DELTA. Below the critical temperature T{sub c}=0.15epsilon{sub F} the results for m*, U, and DELTA can be accurately reproduced using an independent quasiparticle model. THE THOMAS-FERMI METHOD FOR EQUATION-OF-STATE CALCULATIONS

One method of calculating equation-of-state data theoretically is through the application of Thomas-Fermi statistical theory. Data obtained from this method can be expected to be reasonably accurate only at densities greater than two to four times normal solid density or at temperatures greater than five to twenty volts. This is outside the range of primary interest for present considerations. The method is used as a guide for extrapolating experimental data or theoretical data valid in other density-temperature ranges. (W.L.H.)

Incompressible states of a two-component Fermi gas in a double-well optical lattice

We propose a scheme to investigate the effect of frustration on the magnetic phase transitions of cold atoms confined in an optical lattice. We also demonstrate how to get two-leg spin ladders with frustrated spin-exchange coupling that display a phase transition from a spin liquid to a fully incompressible state. Further, various experimental quantities are analyzed for describing this phase.
