The fission cross section of /sup 243/Am was measured in the neutron energy range from 1 eV to 10 MeV. Several methods of neutron production were employed using the Van de Graaff accelerator and the electron linear accelerator of the Central Bureau of Nuclear Measurements. The energy averaged fission cross section measured at the Geel electron linear accelerator (GELINA) above 100 eV and the fission cross sections measured at the Van de Graaff above 350 keV were determined relative to the /sup 235/U(n,f) cross section. Neutron capture and fission cross section of /sup 243/Am in the energy range from 5 to 250 keV

The neutron capture and subthreshold fission cross section of /sup 243/Am was measured in the energy range from 5 to 250 keV using /sup 197/Au and /sup 235/U as the respective standards. Neutrons were produced via the /sup 7/Li(p,n) and the T(p,n) reaction with the Karlsruhe 3-MV pulsed Van de Graaff accelerator. Capture events were detected by two Moxon-Rae detectors with graphite and bismuth graphite converters, respectively. Fission events were registered by an Ne-213 liquid scintillator with pulse-shape discriminator equipment. The authors measure the fission cross section ratios Pa 231/Pu 239 and Am 243/Pu 239 in the energy range E /sub n/ = 0.135-7.4 MeV. The Am 243 fission cross section is measured because of the considerable (up to 30%) divergence of the results in the plateau region (E /sub n/ = 2-5 MeV). The measurements were performed with neutrons from the Li 7 (p,n) Be 7, T (p, n) He 3, and D (d, n) He 3 reactions at electrostatic accelerators. The results of measurements of the fission cross-sections and resonance parameters {sigma}{sub 0}{gamma}{sub f} and {gamma}{sub f} of {sup 234}U and {sup 237}Np together with the preliminary results of {sup 243}Am fission cross-section measurements carried out in the framework of the program of studying subthreshold fission at the IBR-30 pulsed neutron source in Dubna are presented. The measurements were conducted by the time-of-flight technique.
