We report that artificial spin ice systems have opened experimental windows into a range of model magnetic systems through the control of interactions among nanomagnet moments. This control has previously been enabled by altering the nanomagnet size and the geometry of their placement. Here we demonstrate that the interactions in artificial spin ice can be further controlled by including a soft ferromagnetic underlayer below the moments. Such a substrate also breaks the symmetry in the array when magnetized, introducing a directional component to the correlations. Nanomagnonic Cavities for Strong Spin-Magnon Coupling and Magnon-Mediated Spin-Spin Interactions

We present a theoretical approach to use ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic nanoparticles as microwave nanomagnonic cavities to concentrate microwave magnetic fields into deeply subwavelength volumes ~ 10^–13 mm³. In this work, we show that the field in such nanocavities can efficiently couple to isolated spin emitters (spin qubits) positioned close to the nanoparticle surface reaching the single magnon-spin strong-coupling regime and mediate efficient long-range quantum state transfers between isolated spin emitters. Nanomagnonic cavities thus pave the way toward magnon-based quantum networks and magnon-mediated quantum gates.

Entropy-Vanishing Transition and Glassy Dynamics in Frustrated Spins

In an effort to understand the glass transition, the dynamics of a nonrandomly frustrated spin model has been analyzed. The phenomenology of the spin model is similar to that of a supercooled liquid undergoing the glass transition. The slow dynamics can be associated with the presence of extended stringlike structures which demarcate regions of fast spin flips. An entropy-vanishing transition, with the string density as the order parameter, is related to the observed glass transition in the spin model.

We describe a simple scheme for the implementation and control of effective spin-spin interactions in self-assembled crystals of cold polar molecules. In our scheme, spin states are encoded in two long-lived rotational states of the molecules and coupled via state-dependent dipole-dipole forces to the lattice vibrations. We show that, by choosing an appropriate time-dependent modulation of the induced dipole moments, the resulting phonon-mediated interactions compete with the direct dipole-dipole coupling and lead to long-range and tunable spin-spin interaction patterns.
