Hydrogen sulfide (H{sub 2}S) and hydrogen (H{sub 2}) crystallize into a 'guest-host' structure at 3.5 GPa and, at the initial formation pressure, the rotationally disordered component molecules exhibit weak van der Waals-type interactions. With increasing pressure, hydrogen bonding develops and strengthens between neighboring H{sub 2}S molecules, reflected in a pronounced drop in S-H vibrational stretching frequency and also observed in first-principles calculations. The hypothesis is put forward that the structure of amorphous silicon and other amorphous compounds with a tetrahedral coordination of atoms consists of local regions characterized by an ordered but not crystalline structure and that, owing to the regularity inherent in this structure, solid-phase crystallization of the amorphous compounds under consideration can occur through the cooperative mechanism. Neat bis(trimethyl)silylacetylene has been used as a co-oligomerization partner with (C/sub 5/H/sub 5/)Co(CO)/sub 2/ to form an array of molecular structures. This communication primarily reports the results of a crystal study of the trinuclear transition metal cluster. Monocrystals obtained from hexane are orthorhombic, space group P/sub bcn/-D/sub 2h (No. 60) with a = 11.333 (2) A, b = 18.205 (4) A, c = 25.679 (4) A, and Z = 8.
