Here at OSTI the process has begun to migrate static content from our legacy file based Intranet into the Drupal content management system. This is likely to be a long project due to the number of static files that have been accumulated over many years. Fortunately, Drupal is engineered to coincide with static files on the same web address. We will continue to have Drupal to Drupal links as well as Drupal to static HTML file links for some time.
- Event Planning. This flexibility has enabled us to deploy the Drupal event calendar module to keep everyone informed of training and promotional events.
- Online Community "Hands-On" Learning. Participation in online communities is a major change for many in government. Drupal's core comment and signup procedures made it easy to establish a personal presence and learn online etiquette.
- Prototyping. The modular software architecture, granular permissions, extensible CCK and Views modules, and theme-switching capability of Drupal make it possible to develop and test new websites behind the firewall.
