Direct Hamiltonization for Nambu Systems
Maria Lewtchuk Espindola
2008-10-13
The direct hamiltonization procedure applied to Nambu mechanical systems proves that the Nambu mechanics is an usual mechanics described by only one Hamiltonian. Thus a particular case of Hamiltonian mechanics. It is also proved that any mechanical system described by the equation d{\\bf r}/dt={\\bf A(r)} is a Nambu system.

Adaptation of the Hamilton--Jacobi formalism to quantum mechanics leads to a cocycle condition, which is invariant under $D$--dimensional M\\"obius transformations with Euclidean or Minkowski metrics. In this paper we aim to provide a pedagogical presentation of the proof of the M\\"obius symmetry underlying the cocycle condition. The M\\"obius symmetry implies energy quantization and undefinability of quantum trajectories, without assigning any prior interpretation to the wave function. As such, the Hamilton--Jacobi formalism, augmented with the global M\\"obius symmetry, provides an alternative starting point, to the axiomatic probability interpretation of the wave function, for the formulation of quantum mechanics and the quantum spacetime. The M\\"obius symmetry can only be implemented consistently if spatial space is compact, and correspondingly if there exist a finite ultraviolet length scale. Evidence for non--trivial space topology may exist in the cosmic microwave background radiation.

Hamilton-Jacobi Fractional Sequential Mechanics
Eqab M. Rabei; Bashar S. Ababneh
2007-04-04
As a continuation of Rabei et al. work [11], the Hamilton- Jacobi partial differential equation is generalized to be applicable for systems containing fractional derivatives. The Hamilton- Jacobi function in configuration space is obtained in a similar manner to the usual mechanics. Two problems are considered to demonstrate the application of the formalism. The result found to be in exact agreement with Agrawal's formalism.

2012-09-04
Lagrangian submanifolds are becoming a very essential tool to generalize and geometrically understand results and procedures in the area of mathematical physics. Here we use general Lagrangian submanifolds to provide a geometric version of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. This interpretation allows us to study some interesting applications of Hamilton-Jacobi equation in holonomic, nonholonomic and time-dependent dynamics from a geometrical point of view.

Nonholonomic Hamilton-Jacobi equation and Integrability
Tomoki Ohsawa; Anthony M. Bloch
2009-12-18
We discuss an extension of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory to nonholonomic mechanics with a particular interest in its application to exactly integrating the equations of motion. We give an intrinsic proof of a nonholonomic analogue of the Hamilton--Jacobi theorem. Our intrinsic proof clarifies the difference from the conventional Hamilton-Jacobi theory for unconstrained systems. The proof also helps us identify a geometric meaning of the conditions on the solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation that arise from nonholonomic constraints. The major advantage of our result is that it provides us with a method of integrating the equations of motion just as the unconstrained Hamilton--Jacobi theory does. In particular, we build on the work by Iglesias-Ponte, de Leon, and Martin de Diego so that the conventional method of separation of variables applies to some nonholonomic mechanical systems. We also show a way to apply our result to systems to which separation of variables does not apply.

Quantum Potential Via General Hamilton - Jacobi Equation
Maedeh Mollai; Mohammad Razavi; Safa Jami; Ali Ahanj
2011-10-29
In this paper, we sketch and emphasize the automatic emergence of a quantum potential (QP) in general Hamilton-Jacobi equation via commuting relations, quantum canonical transformations and without the straight effect of wave function. The interpretation of QP in terms of independent entity is discussed along with the introduction of quantum kinetic energy. The method has been extended to relativistic regime, and same results have been concluded.

Hamilton-Jacobi Formalism for Tachyon Inflation
A. Aghamohammadi; A. Mohammadi; T. Golanbari; Kh. Saaidi
2015-02-26
Tachyon inflation is reconsidered by using the recent observational data obtained from Planck-2013 and BICEP2. The Hamilton-Jacobi formalism is picked out as a desirable approach in this work, which allows one to easily obtain the main parameters of the model. The Hubble parameter is supposed as a power-law and exponential function of the scalar field, and each case is considered separately. The constraints on the model, which come from observational data, are explained during the work. The results show a suitable value for the tensor spectral index and an appropriate form of the potential.
Hamilton-Jacobi Method and Gravitation
R. Di Criscienzo; L. Vanzo; S. Zerbini
2010-10-05
Studying the behaviour of a quantum field in a classical, curved, spacetime is an extraordinary task which nobody is able to take on at present time. Independently by the fact that such problem is not likely to be solved soon, still we possess the instruments to perform exact predictions in special, highly symmetric, conditions. Aim of the present contribution is to show how it is possible to extract quantitative information about a variety of physical phenomena in very general situations by virtue of the so-called Hamilton-Jacobi method. In particular, we shall prove the agreement of such semi-classical method with exact results of quantum field theoretic calculations.

Hamilton-Jacobi Renormalization for Lifshitz Spacetime
Marco Baggio; Jan de Boer; Kristian Holsheimer
2012-09-12
Just like AdS spacetimes, Lifshitz spacetimes require counterterms in order to make the on-shell value of the bulk action finite. We study these counterterms using the Hamilton-Jacobi method. Rather than imposing boundary conditions from the start, we will derive suitable boundary conditions by requiring that divergences can be canceled using only local counterterms. We will demonstrate in examples that this procedure indeed leads to a finite bulk action while at the same time it determines the asymptotic behavior of the fields. This puts more substance to the belief that Lifshitz spacetimes are dual to well-behaved field theories. As a byproduct, we will find the analogue of the conformal anomaly for Lifshitz spacetimes.
Fake supersymmetry versus Hamilton-Jacobi
Mario Trigiante; Thomas Van Riet; Bert Vercnocke
2012-04-10
We explain when the first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations for black holes (and domain walls) in (gauged) supergravity, reduce to the usual first-order equations derived from a fake superpotential. This turns out to be equivalent to the vanishing of a newly found constant of motion and we illustrate this with various examples. We show that fake supersymmetry is a necessary condition for having physically sensible extremal black hole solutions. We furthermore observe that small black holes become scaling solutions near the horizon. When combined with fake supersymmetry, this leads to a precise extension of the attractor mechanism to small black holes: The attractor solution is such that the scalars move on specific curves, determined by the black hole charges, that are purely geodesic, although there is a non-zero potential.

Hamilton-Jacobi theory in multisymplectic classical field theories
Manuel de León; Pedro Daniel Prieto-Martínez; Narciso Román-Roy; Silvia Vilariño
2015-04-08
The geometric framework for the Hamilton-Jacobi theory developed in previous works is extended for multisymplectic first-order classical field theories. The Hamilton-Jacobi problem is stated for the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formalisms of these theories as a particular case of a more general problem, and the classical Hamilton-Jacobi equation for field theories is recovered from this geometrical setting. Particular and complete solutions to these problems are defined and characterized in several equivalent ways in both formalisms, and the equivalence between them is proved. The use of distributions in jet bundles that represent the solutions to the field equations is the fundamental tool in this formulation. Some examples are analyzed and, in particular, the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for non-autonomous mechanical systems is obtained as a special case of our results.

Geometric Hamilton-Jacobi Theory for Nonholonomic Dynamical Systems
J. F. Cariñena; X. Gracia; G. Marmo; E. Martinez; M. C. Muñoz-Lecanda; N. Roman--Roy
2009-08-17
The geometric formulation of Hamilton--Jacobi theory for systems with nonholonomic constraints is developed, following the ideas of the authors in previous papers. The relation between the solutions of the Hamilton--Jacobi problem with the symplectic structure defined from the Lagrangian function and the constraints is studied. The concept of complete solutions and their relationship with constants of motion, are also studied in detail. Local expressions using quasivelocities are provided. As an example, the nonholonomic free particle is considered.

Hamilton-Jacobi theory, Symmetries and Coisotropic Reduction
Manuel de León; David Martín de Diego; Miguel Vaquero
2015-09-01
Reduction theory has played a major role in the study of Hamiltonian systems. On the other hand, the Hamilton-Jacobi theory is one of the main tools to integrate the dynamics of certain Hamiltonian problems and a topic of research on its own. Moreover, the construction of several symplectic integrators rely on approximations of a complete solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. The natural question that we address in this paper is how these two topics (reduction and Hamilton-Jacobi theory) fit together. We obtain a reduction and reconstruction procedure for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation with symmetries, even in a generalized sense to be clarified below. Several applications and relations to other reductions of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory are shown in the last section of the paper. It is remarkable that as a by-product we obtain a generalization of the Ge-Marsden reduction procedure. Quite surprinsingly, the classical ansatzs available in the literature to solve the Hamilton-Jacobi equation are also particular instances of our framework.

Hamilton-Jacobi Mechanics from Pseudo-Supersymmetry
Paul K. Townsend
2007-11-20
For a general mechanical system, it is shown that each solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation defines an N=2 pseudo-supersymmetric extension of the system, such that the usual relation of the momenta to Hamilton's principal function is the `BPS' condition for preservation of 1/2 pseudo-supersymmetry. The examples of the relativistic and non-relativistic particle, in a general potential, are worked through in detail, and used to discuss the relation to cosmology and to supersymmetric quantum mechanics.

In this work we discuss the natural appearance of the Generalized Brackets in systems with non-involutive (equivalent to second class) constraints in the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. We show how a consistent geometric interpretation of the integrability conditions leads to the reduction of degrees of freedom of these systems and, as consequence, naturally defines a dynamics in a reduced phase space.

Hamilton-Jacobi method for a simple resonance
Mischa Rudnev
2003-05-09
It is well known that a generic small perturbation of a Liouville-integrable Hamiltonian system causes breakup of resonant and near-resonant invariant tori. A general approach to the simple resonance case in the convex real-analytic setting is developed, based on a new technique for solving the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. It is shown that a generic perturbation creates in the core of a resonance a partially hyperbolic lower-dimensional invariant torus, whose Lagrangian stable and unstable manifolds, described as global solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, split away from this torus at exponentially small angles. Optimal upper bounds with best constants are obtained for exponentially small splitting in the general case.
On the Hamilton approach to the metric GR
Frolov, Alexei M
2015-01-01
Basic principles of the Hamilton approach developed for the metric General Relativity (Einstein`s GR) are discussed. In particular, we derive the Hamiltonian of the metric GR in the explicit form. This Hamiltonian is a quadratic function of the momenta $\\pi^{mn}$ conjugate to the spatial components $g_{mn}$ of the metric tensor $g_{\\alpha\\beta}$. The Hamilton approach is used to analyze some problems of metric GR, including the internal structure of propagating gravitational waves and quantization of the metric GR. We also derive the Schr\\"{o}dinger equation for the free Gravitational field and show that actual gravitational field cannot propagate as pure harmonic oscillations, or harmonic gravitational waves. A number of inequalities useful in the metric GR are derived.

Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for string gas thermodynamics

We show that the thermodynamics of a system of strings at high energy densities under the ideal gas approximation has a formulation in terms of Hamilton-Jacobi theory. The two parameters of the system, which have dimensions of energy density and number density, respectively, define a family of hypersurfaces of co-dimension one, which can be described by the vanishing of a function F that plays the role of a Hamiltonian.

We have obtained the solutions of two dimensional singular oscillator which is known as the quantum Calogero-Sutherland model both in cartesian and parabolic coordinates within the framework of quantum Hamilton Jacobi formalism. Solvability conditions and eigenfunctions are obtained by using the singularity structures of quantum momentum functions under some conditions. New potentials are generated by using the first two states of singular oscillator for parabolic coordinates.
Wave-Particle Duality and the Hamilton-Jacobi Equation
Gregory I. Sivashinsky
2009-12-28
The Hamilton-Jacobi equation of relativistic quantum mechanics is revisited. The equation is shown to permit solutions in the form of breathers (oscillating/spinning solitons), displaying simultaneous particle-like and wave-like behavior. The de Broglie wave thus acquires a clear deterministic meaning of a wave-like excitation of the classical action function. The problem of quantization in terms of the breathing action function and the double-slit experiment are discussed.
Hamilton-Dirac systems for charged particles in gauge fields
Fernando Jimenez
2015-04-07
In this work, we use the Sternberg phase space (which may be considered as the classical phase space of particles in gauge fields) in order to explore the dynamics of such particles in the context of Hamilton-Dirac systems and their associated Hamilton-Pontryagin variational principles. For this, we develop an analogue of the Pontryagin bundle in the case of the Sternberg phase space. Moreover, we show the link of this new bundle to the so-called magnetized Tulczyjew triple, which is an analogue of the link between the Pontryagin bundle and the usual Tulczyjew triple. Taking advantage of the symplectic nature of the Sternberg space, we induce a Dirac structure on the Sternberg-Pontryagin bundle which leads to the Hamilton-Dirac structure that we are looking for. We also analyze the intrinsic and variational nature of the equations of motion of particles in gauge fields in regards of the defined new geometry. Lastly, we illustrate our theory through the case of a $U(1)$ gauge group, leading to the paradigmatic example of an electrically charged particle in an electromagnetic field.

Understanding chemical reactions within a generalized Hamilton-Jacobi framework
A. S. Sanz; X. Gimenez; J. M. Bofill; S. Miret-Artes
2009-08-13
Reaction paths and classical and quantum trajectories are studied within a generalized Hamilton-Jacobi framework, which allows to put on equal footing topology and dynamics in chemical reactivity problems. In doing so, we show how high-dimensional problems could be dealt with by means of Caratheodory plots or how trajectory-based quantum-classical analyses reveal unexpected discrepancies. As a working model, we consider the reaction dynamics associated with a Mueller-Brown potential energy surface, where we focus on the relationship between reaction paths and trajectories as well as on reaction probability calculations from classical and quantum trajectories.
The Hamilton-Jacobi Theory, Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity
B. G. Sidharth
2005-10-12
The Hamilton-Jacobi theory of Classical Mechanics can be extended in a novel manner to systems which are fuzzy in the sense that they can be represented by wave functions. A constructive interference of the phases of the wave functions then gives us back Classical systems. In a suitable description this includes both Quantum Theory and General Relativity in the well known superspace formulation. However, there are several nuances which provide insight into these latter systems. All this is considered in this paper together with suitable generalization, to cascades of super universes.
Hamilton-Jacobi method for Domain Walls and Cosmologies
Kostas Skenderis; Paul K. Townsend
2006-12-07
We use Hamiltonian methods to study curved domain walls and cosmologies. This leads naturally to first order equations for all domain walls and cosmologies foliated by slices of maximal symmetry. For Minkowski and AdS-sliced domain walls (flat and closed FLRW cosmologies) we recover a recent result concerning their (pseudo)supersymmetry. We show how domain-wall stability is consistent with the instability of adS vacua that violate the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. We also explore the relationship to Hamilton-Jacobi theory and compute the wave-function of a 3-dimensional closed universe evolving towards de Sitter spacetime.

Hamilton-Jacobi Approach for Power-Law Potentials
R. C. Santos; J. Santos; J. A. S. Lima
2006-08-30
The classical and relativistic Hamilton-Jacobi approach is applied to the one-dimensional homogeneous potential, $V(q)=\\alpha q^n$, where $\\alpha$ and $n$ are continuously varying parameters. In the non-relativistic case, the exact analytical solution is determined in terms of $\\alpha$, $n$ and the total energy $E$. It is also shown that the non-linear equation of motion can be linearized by constructing a hypergeometric differential equation for the inverse problem $t(q)$. A variable transformation reducing the general problem to that one of a particle subjected to a linear force is also established. For any value of $n$, it leads to a simple harmonic oscillator if $E>0$, an "anti-oscillator" if $E> 1$, it is found that the correction is just twice that one deduced for the simple harmonic oscillator ($n=2$), and does not depend on the specific value of $n$.
Quantum interference within the complex quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism
Chia-Chun Chou; Angel S. Sanz; Salvador Miret-Artes; Robert E. Wyatt
2010-05-26
Quantum interference is investigated within the complex quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. As shown in a previous work [Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 250401 (2009)], complex quantum trajectories display helical wrapping around stagnation tubes and hyperbolic deflection near vortical tubes, these structures being prominent features of quantum caves in space-time Argand plots. Here, we further analyze the divergence and vorticity of the quantum momentum function along streamlines near poles, showing the intricacy of the complex dynamics. Nevertheless, despite this behavior, we show that the appearance of the well-known interference features (on the real axis) can be easily understood in terms of the rotation of the nodal line in the complex plane. This offers a unified description of interference as well as an elegant and practical method to compute the lifetime for interference features, defined in terms of the average wrapping time, i.e., considering such features as a resonant process.
Hamilton-Jacobi Theory for Degenerate Lagrangian Systems with Holonomic and Nonholonomic Constraints
Melvin Leok; Tomoki Ohsawa; Diana Sosa
2012-09-12
We extend Hamilton-Jacobi theory to Lagrange-Dirac (or implicit Lagrangian) systems, a generalized formulation of Lagrangian mechanics that can incorporate degenerate Lagrangians as well as holonomic and nonholonomic constraints. We refer to the generalized Hamilton-Jacobi equation as the Dirac-Hamilton-Jacobi equation. For non-degenerate Lagrangian systems with nonholonomic constraints, the theory specializes to the recently developed nonholonomic Hamilton-Jacobi theory. We are particularly interested in applications to a certain class of degenerate nonholonomic Lagrangian systems with symmetries, which we refer to as weakly degenerate Chaplygin systems, that arise as simplified models of nonholonomic mechanical systems; these systems are shown to reduce to non-degenerate almost Hamiltonian systems, i.e., generalized Hamiltonian systems defined with non-closed two-forms. Accordingly, the Dirac-Hamilton-Jacobi equation reduces to a variant of the nonholonomic Hamilton-Jacobi equation associated with the reduced system. We illustrate through a few examples how the Dirac-Hamilton-Jacobi equation can be used to exactly integrate the equations of motion.

Shape invariance and the exactness of quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism
Charles Cherqui; Yevgeny Binder; Asim Gangopadhyaya
2007-09-25
Quantum Hamilton-Jacobi Theory and supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM) are two parallel methods to determine the spectra of a quantum mechanical systems without solving the Schr\\"odinger equation. It was recently shown that the shape invariance, which is an integrability condition in SUSYQM formalism, can be utilized to develop an iterative algorithm to determine the quantum momentum functions. In this paper, we show that shape invariance also suffices to determine the eigenvalues in Quantum Hamilton-Jacobi Theory.
Holographic Wilson loops, Hamilton-Jacobi equation and regularizations
Pontello, Diego
2015-01-01
The minimal area for surfaces whose border are rectangular and circular loops are calculated using the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equation. This amounts to solve the HJ equation for the value of the minimal area, without calculating the shape of the corresponding surface. This is done for bulk geometries that are asymptotically AdS. For the rectangular countour, the HJ equation, which is separable, can be solved exactly. For the circular countour an expansion in powers of the radius is implemented. The HJ approach naturally leads to a regularization which consists in locating the countour away from the border. The results are compared with other regularization which leaves the countour at the border and calculates the area of the corresponding minimal surface up to a diameter smaller than the one of the countour at the border. The results do not coincide, this is traced back to the fact that in the former case the area of a minimal surface is calculated and in the second the computed area corresponds to a fraction ...

The fate of Hamilton's Hodograph in Special and General Relativity
Gibbons, G W
2015-01-01
The hodograph of a non-relativistic particle motion in Euclidean space is the curve described by its momentum vector. For a general central orbit problem the hodograph is the inverse of the pedal curve of the orbit, (i.e. its polar reciprocal), rotated through a right angle. Hamilton showed that for the Kepler/Coulomb problem, the hodograph is a circle whose centre is in the direction of a conserved eccentricity vector. The addition of an inverse cube law force induces the eccentricity vector to precess and with it the hodograph. The same effect is produced by a cosmic string. If one takes the relativistic momentum to define the hodograph, then for the Sommerfeld (i.e. the special relativistic Kepler/Coulomb problem) there is an effective inverse cube force which causes the hodograph to precess. If one uses Schwarzschild coordinates one may also define a a hodograph for timelike or null geodesics moving around a black hole. Iheir pedal equations are given. In special cases the hodograph may be found explicitl...

On the Hamilton-Jacobi method in classical and quantum nonconservative systems

In this work we show how to complete some Hamilton-Jacobi solutions of linear, nonconservative classical oscillatory systems which appeared in the literature and we extend these complete solutions to the quantum mechanical case. In addition, we get the solution of the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi equation for an electric charge in an oscillating pulsing magnetic field. We also argue that for the case where a charged particle is under the action of an oscillating magnetic field, one can apply nuclear magnetic resonance techniques in order to find experimental results regarding this problem. We obtain all results analytically, showing that the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism is a powerful tool to describe quantum mechanics.

The Hamilton-Jacobi analysis is applied to the dynamics of the scalar fluctuations about the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW). The gauge conditions are found from the consistency conditions. The physical degrees of freedom of the model are obtain by symplectic projector method. The role of the linearly dependent Hamiltonians and the gauge variables in Hamilton-Jacobi formalism is discussed.

Deformed Hamilton-Jacobi Method in Covariant Quantum Gravity Effective Models

We first briefly revisit the original Hamilton-Jacobi method and show that the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for the action $I$ of tunnelings of a fermionic particle from a charged black hole can be written in the same form as that of a scalar particle. For the low energy quantum gravity effective models which respect covariance of the curved spacetime, we derive the deformed model-independent KG/Dirac and Hamilton-Jacobi equations using the methods of effective field theory. We then find that, to all orders of the effective theories, the deformed Hamilton-Jacobi equations can be obtained from the original ones by simply replacing the mass of emitted particles $m$ with a parameter $m_{eff}$ that includes all the quantum gravity corrections. Therefore, in this scenario, there will be no corrections to the Hawking temperature of a black hole from the quantum gravity effects if its original Hawking temperature is independent of the mass of emitted particles. As a consequence, our results show that breaking covariance in quantum gravity effective models is a key for a black hole to have the remnant left in the evaporation.

Hamilton's principle: why is the integrated difference of kinetic and potential energy minimized?
Alberto G. Rojo
2005-04-02
I present an intuitive answer to an often asked question: why is the integrated difference K-U between the kinetic and potential energy the quantity to be minimized in Hamilton's principle? Using elementary arguments, I map the problem of finding the path of a moving particle connecting two points to that of finding the minimum potential energy of a static string. The mapping implies that the configuration of a non--stretchable string of variable tension corresponds to the spatial path dictated by the Principle of Least Action; that of a stretchable string in space-time is the one dictated by Hamilton's principle. This correspondence provides the answer to the question above: while a downward force curves the trajectory of a particle in the (x,t) plane downward, an upward force of the same magnitude stretches the string to the same configuration x(t).
Topologically massive Yang-Mills: A Hamilton-Jacobi constraint analysis
Bertin, M. C.; Pimentel, B. M.; Valcárcel, C. E.; Zambrano, G. E. R.
2014-04-15
We analyse the constraint structure of the topologically massive Yang-Mills theory in instant-form and null-plane dynamics via the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. The complete set of hamiltonians that generates the dynamics of the system is obtained from the Frobenius’ integrability conditions, as well as its characteristic equations. As generators of canonical transformations, the hamiltonians are naturally linked to the generator of Lagrangian gauge transformations.
Hamilton dynamics for the Lefschetz thimble integration akin to the complex Langevin method
Fukushima, Kenji
2015-01-01
The Lefschetz thimble method, i.e., the integration along the steepest descent cycles, is an idea to evade the sign problem by complexifying the theory. We discuss that such steepest descent cycles can be identified as ground-state wave-functions of a supersymmetric Hamilton dynamics, which is described with a framework akin to the complex Langevin method. We numerically construct the wave-functions on a grid using a toy model and confirm their well-localized behavior.

Existence of solutions for Hamiltonian field theories by the Hamilton-Jacobi technique
Danilo Bruno
2010-07-12
The paper is devoted to prove the existence of a local solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation in field theory, whence the general solution of the field equations can be obtained. The solution is adapted to the choice of the submanifold where the initial data of the field equations are assigned. Finally, a technique to obtain the general solution of the field equations, starting from the given initial manifold, is deduced.
Three-dimensional Background Field Gravity: A Hamilton-Jacobi analysis

We analyse the constraint structure of the Background Field model for three dimensional gravity including a cosmological term via the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. We find the complete set of involutive Hamiltonians that assures the integrability of the system and calculate the characteristic equations of the system. We established the equivalence between these equations and the field equations and also obtain the generators of canonical and gauge transformations.

The Hamilton-Jacobi method is generalized, both, in classical and relativistic mechanics. The implications in quantum mechanics are considered in the case of Klein-Gordon equation. We find that the wave functions of Klein-Gordon theory can be considered as describing the motion of an ensemble of particles that move under the action of the electromagnetic field alone, without quantum potentials, hidden uninterpreted variables, or zero point fields. The number of particles is not locally conserved.
First Order Description of D=4 static Black Holes and the Hamilton-Jacobi equation

2009-06-09
In this note we discuss the application of the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism to the first order description of four dimensional spherically symmetric and static black holes. In particular we show that the prepotential characterizing the flow coincides with the Hamilton principal function associated with the one-dimensional effective Lagrangian. This implies that the prepotential can always be defined, at least locally in the radial variable and in the moduli space, both in the extremal and non-extremal case and allows us to conclude that it is duality invariant. We also give, in this framework, a general definition of the ``Weinhold metric'' in terms of which a necessary condition for the existence of multiple attractors is given. The Hamilton-Jacobi formalism can be applied both to the restricted phase space where the electromagnetic potentials have been integrated out as well as in the case where the electromagnetic potentials are dualized to scalar fields using the so-called three-dimensional Euclidean approach. We give some examples of application of the formalism, both for the BPS and the non-BPS black holes.

Converting Classical Theories to Quantum Theories by Solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi Equation
Zhi-Qiang Guo; Ivan Schmidt
2012-08-03
By employing special solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and tools from lattice theories, we suggest an approach to convert classical theories to quantum theories for mechanics and field theories. Some nontrivial results are obtained for a gauge field and a fermion field. For a topologically massive gauge theory, we can obtain a first order Lagrangian with mass term. For the fermion field, in order to make our approach feasible, we supplement the conventional Lagrangian with a surface term. This surface term can also produce the massive term for the fermion.
Superluminality and a Curious Phenomenon in the Relativistic Quantum Hamilton-Jacobi Equation
Marco Matone
2012-12-16
A basic problem in the relativistic quantum Hamilton-Jacobi theory is to understand whether it may admit superluminal solutions. Here we consider the averaging of the speed on a period of the oscillating term which is similar to Dirac's averaging of the oscillating part of the free electron's speed. Such an averaging solves the problem of getting the $\\hbar\\to 0$ limit of the speed of the free particle, and leads to solutions that, depending on the integration constants, may be superluminal.
Interplay of causticity and vorticality within the complex quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism
A. S. Sanz; S. Miret-Artes
2008-06-04
Interference dynamics is analyzed in the light of the complex quantum Hamilton-Jacobi formalism, using as a working model the collision of two Gaussian wave packets. Though simple, this model nicely shows that interference in quantum scattering processes gives rise to rich dynamics and trajectory topologies in the complex plane, both ruled by two types of singularities: caustics and vortices, where the former are associated with the regime of free wave-packet propagation, and the latter with the collision (interference) process. Furthermore, an unambiguous picture connecting the complex and real frameworks is also provided and discussed.
Hamilton-Jacobi Approach for First Order Actions and Theories with Higher Derivatives

2007-01-29
In this work we analyze systems described by Lagrangians with higher order derivatives in the context of the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for first order actions. Two different approaches are studied here: the first one is analogous to the description of theories with higher derivatives in the hamiltonian formalism according to [Sov. Phys. Journ. 26 (1983) 730; the second treats the case where degenerate coordinate are present, in an analogy to reference [Nucl. Phys. B 630 (2002) 509]. Several examples are analyzed where a comparison between both approaches is made.
Complete solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and the envelope method
del Castillo, G F Torres
2014-01-01
It is shown that the parameters contained in any two complete solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, corresponding to a given Hamiltonian, are related by means of a time-independent canonical transformation and that, in some cases, a generating function of this transformation is given by the envelope of a family of surfaces defined by the difference of the two complete solutions. Conversely, in those cases, one of the complete solutions is given by the envelope of a family of surfaces defined by the sum of the other complete solution and the generating function of the canonical transformation. Some applications of these results to geometrical optics are also given.

We study concircular tensors in spaces of constant curvature and then apply the results obtained to the problem of the orthogonal separation of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation on these spaces. Any coordinates which separate the geodesic Hamilton-Jacobi equation are called separable. Specifically for spaces of constant curvature, we obtain canonical forms of concircular tensors modulo the action of the isometry group, we obtain the separable coordinates induced by irreducible concircular tensors, and we obtain warped products adapted to reducible concircular tensors. Using these results, we show how to enumerate the isometrically inequivalent orthogonal separable coordinates, construct the transformation from separable to Cartesian coordinates, and execute the Benenti-Eisenhart-Kalnins-Miller (BEKM) separation algorithm for separating natural Hamilton-Jacobi equations.
3rd post-Newtonian higher order Hamilton dynamics for two-body point-mass systems
Piotr Jaranowski; Gerhard Schaefer
1997-12-17
The paper presents the conservative dynamics of two-body point-mass systems up to the third post-Newtonian order ($1/c^6$). The two-body dynamics is given in terms of a higher order ADM Hamilton function which results from a third post-Newtonian Routh functional for the total field-plus-matter system. The applied regularization procedures, together with making use of distributional differentiation of homogeneous functions, give unique results for the terms in the Hamilton function apart from the coefficient of the term $(\

The list of tantalum lines for wavelengths calibration of the Hamilton echelle-spectrograph
Pakhomov, Yu V
2015-01-01
We present solution of the problem of wavelength calibration for Hamilton Echelle spectrograph using hollow cathode lamp, which was operated at Lick Observatory Shane telescope before June 9, 2011. The spectrum of the lamp claimed to be thorium-argon, contains, in addition to the lines of thorium and argon, a number of the unrecognized lines identified by us with tantalum. Using atomic data for measured lines of tantalum and thorium, we estimated the temperature of the gas in the lamp as T=3120+/-60 K. From the atomic line database VALD3 we selected all lines of TaI and TaII which can be seen in the spectrum of the lamp and compiled a list for the use in the processing of spectral observations. We note a limitation of the accuracy of calibration due to the influence of the hyperfine line splitting.
Topologically Massive Yang-Mills field on the Null-Plane: A Hamilton-Jacobi approach
Bertin, M. C.; Pimentel, B. M.; Valcarcel, C. E.; Zambrano, G. E. R.
2010-11-12
Non-abelian gauge theories are super-renormalizable in 2+1 dimensions and suffer from infrared divergences. These divergences can be avoided by adding a Chern-Simons term, i.e., building a Topologically Massive Theory. In this sense, we are interested in the study of the Topologically Massive Yang-Mills theory on the Null-Plane. Since this is a gauge theory, we need to analyze its constraint structure which is done with the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. We are able to find the complete set of Hamiltonian densities, and build the Generalized Brackets of the theory. With the GB we obtain a set of involutive Hamiltonian densities, generators of the evolution of the system.
Constants of the Motion in a Gravitational Field and the Hamilton-Jacobi Function
Paul O'Hara
2012-08-25
In most text books of mechanics, Newton's laws or Hamilton's equations of motion are first written down and then solved based on initial conditions to determine the constants of the motions and to describe the trajectories of the particles. In this essay, we take a different starting point. We begin with the metrics of general relativity and show how they can be used to construct by inspection constants of motion, which can then be used to write down the equations of the trajectories. This will be achieved by deriving a Hamiltonian-Jacobi function from the metric and showing that its existence requires all of the above mentioned properties. The article concludes with four applications, which includes a derivation of Kepler's First Law of Motion for planets, and a formula for describing the trajectories of galaxies moving in a space defined by the Robertson-Walker metric.
Hawking radiation of Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black hole by Hamilton-Jacobi method

2013-08-31
In Refs. (M. Atiqur Rahman, M. Ilias Hossain (2012) Phys. Lett. B {\\bf 712} 1), we have developed Hamilton-Jacobi method for dynamical spacetime and discussed Hawking radiation of Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole by massive particle tunneling method. In this letter, we have investigated the hawking purely thermal and nonthermal radiations of Reissner-Nordstr\\"{o}m-de Sitter (RNdS) black hole. We have considered energy and angular momentum as conserved and shown that the tunneling rate is related to the change of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the derived emission spectrum deviates from the pure thermal spectrum. The results we have obtained for RNdS black hole is also in accordance with Parikh and Wilczek\\rq s opinion and recovered the new result for Hawking radiation of RNdS black hole.

Classical field theory is considered as a theory of unparametrized surfaces embedded in a configuration space, which accommodates, in a symmetric way, spacetime positions and field values. Dynamics is defined by a (Hamiltonian) constraint between multivector-valued generalized momenta, and points in the configuration space. Starting from a variational principle, we derive local equations of motion, that is, differential equations that determine classical surfaces and momenta. A local Hamilton-Jacobi equation applicable in the field theory then follows readily. The general method is illustrated with three examples: non-relativistic Hamiltonian mechanics, De Donder-Weyl scalar field theory, and string theory. Throughout, we use the mathematical formalism of geometric algebra and geometric calculus, which allows to perform completely coordinate-free manipulations.

We introduce a symmetric Poisson bracket that allows us to describe anticommuting fields on a classical level in the same way as commuting fields, without the use of Grassmann variables. By means of a simple example, we show how the Dirac bracket for the elimination of the second class constraints can be introduced, how the classical Hamiltonian equations can be derived and how quantization can be achieved through a direct correspondence principle. Finally, we show that the semiclassical limit of the corresponding Schroedinger equation leads back to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation of the classical theory. Summarizing, it is shown that the relations between classical and quantum theory are valid for fermionic fields in exactly the same way as in the bosonic case, and that there is no need to introduce anticommuting variables on a classical level.
Holographic Renormalization and Ward Identities with the Hamilton-Jacobi Method
Dario Martelli; Wolfgang Mueck
2003-02-03
A systematic procedure for performing holographic renormalization, which makes use of the Hamilton-Jacobi method, is proposed and applied to a bulk theory of gravity interacting with a scalar field and a U(1) gauge field in the Stueckelberg formalism. We describe how the power divergences are obtained as solutions of a set of "descent equations" stemming from the radial Hamiltonian constraint of the theory. In addition, we isolate the logarithmic divergences, which are closely related to anomalies. The method allows to determine also the exact one-point functions of the dual field theory. Using the other Hamiltonian constraints of the bulk theory, we derive the Ward identities for diffeomorphisms and gauge invariance. In particular, we demonstrate the breaking of U(1)_R current conservation, recovering the holographic chiral anomaly recently discussed in hep-th/0112119 and hep-th/0202056.
Hamilton-Jacobi Tunneling Method for Dynamical Horizons in Different Coordinate Gauges

2009-12-03
Previous work on dynamical black hole instability is further elucidated within the Hamilton-Jacobi method for horizon tunneling and the reconstruction of the classical action by means of the null-expansion method. Everything is based on two natural requirements, namely that the tunneling rate is an observable and therefore it must be based on invariantly defined quantities, and that coordinate systems which do not cover the horizon should not be admitted. These simple observations can help to clarify some ambiguities, like the doubling of the temperature occurring in the static case when using singular coordinates, and the role, if any, of the temporal contribution of the action to the emission rate. The formalism is also applied to FRW cosmological models, where it is observed that it predicts the positivity of the temperature naturally, without further assumptions on the sign of the energy.

Hamilton, Ontario is an industrial city with a population of 300,000 which is situated at the western end of Lake Ontario. Canada's two largest iron and steel mills are located here; the city historically has had relatively poor air quality, which has improved markedly in the last 25 years. Concern about the health effects of current air quality recently led us to carry out an epidemiological study of the effects of air pollution on the respiratory health of over 3500 school children. Respiratory health was measured by pulmonary function testing of each child, and by an assessment of each child's respiratory symptoms via a questionnaire administered to the parents. Previous studies had shown that other environmental factors (e.g. parental smoking, parental cough, socioeconomic level, housing, and gas cooking) might also affect respiratory health, and thus confound any potential relationships between health and air pollution. The questionnaire also collected information on many of these confounding factors. For the purposes of initial analysis, the city was divided into five areas in which differences in air quality were expected. In general, factors which have been associated with poor respiratory health were observed to be more prevalent in areas of poorer air quality.
Hamilton-Jacobi Many-Worlds Theory and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

I show that the classical Hamilton-Jacobi (H-J) equation can be used as a technique to study quantum mechanical problems. I first show that the the Schr\\"odinger equation is just the classical H-J equation, constrained by a condition that forces the solutions of the H-J equation to be everywhere $C^2$. That is, quantum mechanics is just classical mechanics constrained to ensure that ``God does not play dice with the universe.'' I show that this condition, which imposes global determinism, strongly suggests that $\\psi^*\\psi$ measures the density of universes in a multiverse. I show that this interpretation implies the Born Interpretation, and that the function space for $\\psi$ is larger than a Hilbert space, with plane waves automatically included. Finally, I use H-J theory to derive the momentum-position uncertainty relation, thus proving that in quantum mechanics, uncertainty arises from the interference of the other universes of the multiverse, not from some intrinsic indeterminism in nature.

Incorporating Parikh and Wilczek's opinion to the Kerr de-Sitter (KdS) black hole Hawking non-thermal and purely thermal radiations have been investigated using Hamilton-Jacobi method. We have taken the background spacetime of KdS black hole as dynamical, involving the self-gravitation effect of the emitted particles, energy and angular momentum has been taken as conserved and show that the tunneling rate is related to the change of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the derived emission spectrum deviates from the pure thermal spectrum. The explored results gives a correction to the Hawking radiation of KdS black hole.

Samples of bottom sediments, suspended sediments and Zebra mussels were collected from Hamilton Harbour, an embayment of western Lake Ontario. In addition, sediment samples were collected from creeks which flow into the Harbour. These sediment samples were extracted with dichloromethane and the organic extract was cleaned up prior to analysis for PAH and thia-arenes by GC-MS. These extracts were also subjected to genotoxicity bioassays (Ames assays) in two strains of Salmonella typhimurium (a TA98-like strain, YG1024-S9 and a TA100-like strain, YG1025 + S9). The sediment and Zebra mussels samples collected near sites of heavy coal tar contamination showed PAH, thia-arene and genotoxicity profiles that are very similar to the corresponding profiles for coal tar. These observations are consistent with the resuspension and distribution of coal tar-contaminated bottom sediments in the water column. The sediment samples collected in a major creek entering the Harbor and the sediment and Zebra mussels samples collected in Windemere Arm near the mouth of this creek showed very different chemical and genotoxicity profiles. Thus, the chemical and genotoxicity burdens on Hamilton Harbour posed by the resuspension of coal tar-contaminated sediments and the inputs from urban activity into a major creek and the Harbor can be differentiated.

Classical background independence is reflected in Lagrangian general relativity through covariance under the full diffeomorphism group. We show how this independence can be maintained in a Hamilton-Jacobi approach that does not accord special privilege to any geometric structure. Intrinsic spacetime curvature based coordinates grant equal status to all geometric backgrounds. They play an essential role as a starting point for inequivalent semi-classical quantizations. The scheme calls into question Wheeler's geometrodynamical approach and the associated Wheeler-DeWitt equation in which three-metrics are featured geometrical objects. The formalism deals with variables that are manifestly invariant under the full diffeomorphism group. Yet, perhaps paradoxically, the liberty in selecting intrinsic coordinates is precisely as broad as is the original diffeomorphism freedom. We show how various ideas from the past five decades concerning the true degrees of freedom of general relativity can be interpreted in light of this new constrained Hamiltonian description. In particular, we show how the Kucha\\v{r} multi-fingered time approach can be understood as a means of introducing full four-dimensional diffeomorphism invariants. Every choice of new phase space variables yields new Einstein-Hamilton-Jacobi constraining relations, and corresponding intrinsic Schr\\"odinger equations. We show how to implement this freedom by canonical transformation of the intrinsic Hamiltonian.

The vanishing of the divergence of the total stress tensor (magnetic plus kinetic) in a neighborhood of an equilibrium plasma containing a toroidal surface of discontinuity gives boundary and jump conditions that strongly constrain allowable continuations of the magnetic field across the surface. The boundary conditions allow the magnetic fields on either side of the discontinuity surface to be described by surface magnetic potentials, reducing the continuation problem to that of solving a Hamilton--Jacobi equation. The characteristics of this equation obey Hamiltonian equations of motion, and a necessary condition for the existence of a continued field across a general toroidal surface is that there exist invariant tori in the phase space of this Hamiltonian system. It is argued from the Birkhoff theorem that existence of such an invariant torus is also, in general, sufficient for continuation to be possible. An important corollary is that the rotational transform of the continued field on a surface of discontinuity must, generically, be irrational.

The massive particles tunneling method has been used to investigate the Hawking non-thermal and purely thermal radiations of Schwarzschild Anti-de Sitter (SAdS) black hole. Considering the spacetime background to be dynamical, incorporate the self-gravitation effect of the emitted particles the imaginary part of the action has been derived from Hamilton-Jacobi equation. Using the conservation laws of energy and angular momentum we have showed that the non-thermal and purely thermal tunneling rates are related to the change of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the derived emission spectrum deviates from the pure thermal spectrum. The result obtained for SAdS black hole is also in accordance with Parikh and Wilczek\\rq s opinion and gives a correction to the Hawking radiation of SAdS black hole.
Hamilton-Jacobi Method and Effective Actions of D-brane and M-brane in Supergravity

We show that the effective actions of D-brane and M-brane are solutions to the Hamilton-Jacobi (H-J) equations in supergravities. This fact means that these effective actions are on-shell actions in supergravities. These solutions to the H-J equations reproduce the supergravity solutions that represent D-branes in a $B_2$ field, M2 branes and the M2-M5 bound states. The effective actions in these solutions are those of a probe D-brane and a probe M-brane. Our findings can be applied to the study of the gauge/gravity correspondence, especially the holographic renormalization group, and a search for new solutions of supergravity.

Hawking radiation of a non-asymptotically flat (NAF) 4-dimensional spherically symmetric and static dilatonic black hole (BH) via the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) method has been studied. In addition to the naive coordinates, we have used four more different coordinate systems which are well-behaved at the horizon. Except the isotropic coordinates, direct computation of the HJ method leads us the standard Hawking temperature for all coordinate systems. The isotropic coordinates render possible to get the index of refraction extracting from the Fermat metric. It is explicitly shown that the index of refraction determines the value of the tunneling rate and its natural consequence, Hawking temperature. The isotropic coordinates within the conventional HJ method produce wrong result for the temperature of the dilatonic BH. Here, we explain how this discrepancy can be resolved by regularizing the integral possessing a pole at the horizon.

Some difficulties, both numerical and conceptual, of the method to compute one dimensional wave functions by numerically integrating the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi equation, presented in the paper mentioned in the title, are analyzed. The origin of these difficulties is discussed, and it is shown how they can be avoided by means of another approach, based on different solutions of the same equation. Results for the same potentials, obtained by this latter method are presented and a comparison is made.

We present measurements of the clustering properties of bright ($L>L_{*}$) z$\\sim$4 Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) selected from the Oxford-Dartmouth Thirty Degree Survey (ODT). We describe techniques used to select and evaluate our candidates and calculate the angular correlation function which we find best fitted by a power law, $\\omega(\\theta)=A_{w}\\theta^{-\\beta}$ with $A_{w}=15.4$ (with $\\theta$ in arcseconds), using a constrained slope of $\\beta=0.8$. Using a redshift distribution consistent with photometric models, we deproject this correlation function and find a comoving $r_{0}=11.4_{-1.9}^{+1.7}$ h$_{100}^{-1}$ Mpc in a $\\Omega_m=0.3$ flat $\\Lambda$ cosmology for $i_{AB}\\leq24.5$. This corresponds to a linear bias value of $b=8.1_{-2.6}^{+2.0}$ (assuming $\\sigma_{8}=0.9$). These data show a significantly larger $r_{0}$ and $b$ than previous studies at $z\\sim4$. We interpret this as evidence that the brightest LBGs have a larger bias than fainter ones, indicating a strong luminosity dependence for the m...

Englin, J.E.; Klan, M.S.; Lyke, A.J.; Tawil, J.J.; De Steese, J.G.; Tepel, R.C.
1987-12-01
This paper describes the development of a method to predict the feasibility of using load management as an alternative to construction of transmission and distribution capacity. A forecasting model was developed and applied to a particular case. Several problems were identified in the test case, necessitating modification of the model. The authors conclude that the modified version of the model allows accurate assessment of the effects of load management and conservation measures on transmission capacity. 13 figs. (JDH)

Invariance of the Hamilton-Jacobi tunneling method for black holes and FRW model
Yi-Xin Chen; Kai-Nan Shao
2010-07-31
In this paper we revisit the topic of Hawking radiation as tunneling. We show that the imaginary part of the action of the tunneling particle should be reconstructed in a covariant way, as a line integral along the classical forbidden trajectory of tunneling particles. As the quantum tunneling phenomenon, the probability of tunneling is related to the imaginary part of the action for the classical forbidden trajectory. We do the calculations for massless and massive particles, in Schwarzschild coordinate and Painlev?coordinate. The construction of particle action is invariant under coordinate transformations, so this method of calculation black hole tunneling does not have the so called "factor 2 problem". As an application, we find that the temperature of Hawking temperature of apparent horizon in a FRW universe is $T=\\frac{\\kappa}{2\\pi}$. Based on this result, we briefly discuss the unified first law of apparent horizon in FRW universe.
Hawking Radiation of Schwarzschild-de Sitter Black Hole by Hamilton-Jacobi method

2012-05-13
We investigate the Hawking radiation of Schwarzschild-de Sitter (SdS) black hole by massive particles tunneling method. We consider the spacetime background to be dynamical, incorporate the self-gravitation effect of the emitted particles and show that the tunneling rate is related to the change of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the derived emission spectrum deviates from the pure thermal spectrum when energy and angular momentum are conserved. Our result is also in accordance with Parikh and Wilczek\\rq s opinion and gives a correction to the Hawking radiation of SdS black hole.
Errors, Correlations and Fidelity for noisy Hamilton flows. Theory and numerical examples
Giorgio Turchetti; Federico Panichi; Stefano Sinigardi; Sandro Vaienti
2015-09-25
We compare the decay of correlations and fidelity for some prototype noisy Hamiltonian flows on a compact phase space. The results obtained for maps on the torus $\\mathbb{T}^2$ or on the cylinder $\\mathbb{T} \\times{\\Bbb I}$ are recovered, in a simpler way, in the limit of vanishing time step $\\Delta t \\to 0$, if these maps are the symplectic integrators of the proposed flows. The mean square deviation $\\sigma(t)$ of the noisy flow asymptotically diverges, following a power law if the unperturbed flow is integrable, exponentially if it is chaotic. Correspondingly the fidelity, which measures the correlation at time $t$ of the noisy flow with respect to unperturbed flow, decays as $\\exp\\bigl (-2 \\pi^2\\, \\sigma^2(t)\\bigr)$. For chaotic flows the fidelity exhibits a plateau, followed by a super-exponential decay starting at $t_* \\propto -\\log \\epsilon$ where $\\epsilon$ is the noise amplitude. We analyze numerically two simple models: the anharmonic oscillator the H\\'enon-Heiles Hamiltonian and the N vortex system for $ N=3,4$ The round-off error on the symplectic integrator acts as a (single realization of a) random perturbation provided that the map has a sufficiently high computational complexity. This can be checked by considering the reversibility error. Finally we consider the effect of the observational noise showing that the decrease of correlations or fidelity can only be observed, after a sequence of measurements. The multiplicative noise is more effective at least for long enough delay between two measurements.

Lead (Pb) is biologically nonessential and if present in excessive levels in the body, it can cause clinical disorders both in humans and animals. Pathologies associated with experimental Pb poisoning have been described in fishes, and several markers have been utilized to monitor effects of short- and long-term exposures. The specific aim of this study was to examine the effects of acute Pb poisoning on the enzymes concerned with membrane transport, neurotransmission, and energy metabolism in selected tissues of the rosy barb, Barbus conchonius, a freshwater fish.

The Pb-induced abnormalities of hematopoiesis are primarily confined to the erythrocytes the leucocytes and platelets do not appear to be altered during chronic exposure. Pb effects in fishes show responses similar to those in mammals. The absence of erythrocyte {delta}-ALAD inhibition in fish exposed to Cd, Cu, Zn, and Hg indicated that this enzyme is quite specific for Pb. The objective of this work was to examine the effects of chronically sublethal concentrations of Cu and Pb on the peripheral blood parameters in the rosy barb, Barbus (Puntius) conchonius, a widely distributed freshwater bony fish.
