Development of a Navigator and Imaging Techniques for the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search Detectors

Science Conference Proceedings (OSTI)

This project contributes to the detection of flaws in the germanium detectors for the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) experiment. Specifically, after imaging the detector surface with a precise imaging and measuring device, they developed software to stitch the resulting images together, applying any necessary rotations, offsets, and averaging, to produce a smooth image of the whole detector that can be used to detect flaws on the surface of the detector. These images were also tiled appropriately for the Google Maps API to use as a navigation tool, allowing viewers to smoothly zoom and pan across the detector surface. Automated defect identification can now be implemented, increasing the scalability of the germanium detector fabrication.

One such field is that of geophysics. This paper presents the electrical resistivity component of an undergraduate geophysics course at Radford University. It is taught from a physics perspective, yet the application of the theory to the real world is the overriding goal. The concepts involved in electrical resistivity studies are first discussed in a general sense, and then they are studied through the application of the relevant electromagnetic theory.

Introduction Introduction A merica has the technological capacity to change its energy future. There is no reason, for example, why our nation must continue following a path of rising oil imports when billions of barrels of crude oil remain in domestic oil fields. There is no reason why we cannot continue to use our abundant supplies of high-value, low-cost coal when we have the scientific know-how to remove virtually all of its pollutants and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There is no reason why we cannot turn increasingly to clean-burning natural gas and tap the huge supplies we know exist within our borders. We remain a nation rich in the fuels that have powered economic growth. Today 85 percent of the energy we use to heat our homes and businesses, generate our electricity, and fuel our vehicles comes from coal,

GLODAP Introduction

NLE Websites -- All DOE Office Websites (Extended Search)

Introduction Introduction Overview The GLobal Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP) is a cooperative effort to coordinate global synthesis projects funded through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study - Synthesis and Modeling Project (JGOFS-SMP). Cruises conducted as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), JGOFS, and the NOAA Ocean-Atmosphere Exchange Study (OACES) over the decade of the 1990s have created an oceanographic database of unparalleled quality and quantity. These data provide an important asset to the scientific community investigating carbon cycling in the oceans. The central objective of this project is to generate a unified data set to help determine the global distributions of both natural and anthropogenic inorganic carbon, including radiocarbon. These estimates provide an important benchmark against which future observational studies will be compared. They also provide tools for the direct evaluation of numerical ocean carbon models.

Navigation drilling technology progresses

SciTech Connect

This article reports that navigation drilling - an approach that combines advanced drill bit, downhole motor, measurement-while-drilling, and well planning technology into an integrated, steerable drilling system - has reduced drilling time for operating companies worldwide. A major operating advantage of navigation drilling is the ability to drill both straight and directional intervals with a single assembly. In conventional directional drilling, a bent sub and downhole motor (or a bent housing motor) are used to initiate kick-offs and make course corrections. The bent sub is made-up above the motor, tilting the motor's axis 1 to 3 degrees compared to the axis of the drill string. The assembly toolface can be aligned in the desired direction with a single-shot, a steering tool or an MWD system.

Searching Searching Jump to: navigation, search The quickest way to find information in MediaWiki is to look it up directly. On the right-hand side of your screen there is a search box with two buttons under it labeled "Go" and "Search". Put your keyword in the searchbox. Go - (or Enter on keyboard) will take you automatically to the article, if it exists. Search - will search the text of all pages on the wiki (with some restrictions, see below). If you clicked "Search", or you clicked "Go" and the page you were looking for did not exist, you will be presented with a list of articles that matched your search criteria (or a message that no matches were found). How it works Here's how the search works: Only the article content is searched - the page title is ignored.

Leptoquark searches in TESLA

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Leptoquark searches are considered for possible future e + e and e experiments at TESLA. Expected exclusion limits from direct leptoquark searches are compared with indirect limits expected from the contact interaction analysis. If the leptoquark signal suggested by the existing data is detected at LHC, with mass below 1 TeV, TESLA will be an ideal place to study its properties, provided that the leptoquark Yukawa coupling is not too small. Key words: Leptoquarks, Future colliders, Searches PACS: 12.60.i, 14.80.j 1 Introduction New result on atomic parity violation (APV) in Cesium and unitarity of the CKM matrix, as well as recent LEP2 hadronic cross-section measurements indicate possible deviations from the Standard Model predictions. Exchange of leptoquark type objects has been proposed as a possible explanation for these eects (1). If the observed signal is real it should become clearly visible in future colliders. Search Combinators

E-Print Network (OSTI)

The ability to model search in a constraint solver can be an essential asset for solving combinatorial problems. However, existing infrastructure for defining search heuristics is often inadequate. Either modeling capabilities are extremely limited or users are faced with a general-purpose programming language whose features are not tailored towards writing search heuristics. As a result, major improvements in performance may remain unexplored. This article introduces search combinators, a lightweight and solver-independent method that bridges the gap between a conceptually simple modeling language for search (high-level, functional and naturally compositional) and an efficient implementation (low-level, imperative and highly non-modular). By allowing the user to define application-tailored search strategies from a small set of primitives, search combinators effectively provide a rich domain-specific language (DSL) for modeling search to the user. Remarkably, this DSL comes at a low implementation cost to the...

Two common PGAS languages are Unified Parallel C (UPC) and Co-array Fortran (CAF). The first implementation of this tutorial is based on UPC and CAF. This tutorial assumes that you have some familiarity with UNIX, text editors and compiling programs from source code. Chapter 1. Introduction

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) Indexed Site

1. Introduction 1. Introduction Chapter 1. Introduction Household Vehicles Energy Consumption 1994 reports on the results of the 1994 Residential Transportation Energy Consumption Survey (RTECS). The RTECS is a national sample survey that has been conducted every 3 years since 1985. For the 1994 survey, more than 3,000 households that own or use some 6,000 vehicles provided information to describe vehicle stock, vehicle-miles traveled, energy end-use consumption, and energy expenditures for personal vehicles. The survey results represent the characteristics of the 84.9 million households that used or had access to vehicles in 1994 nationwide. (An additional 12 million households neither owned nor had access to vehicles during the survey year.) To be included in the RTECS survey, vehicles must be either owned or used by household members on a regular basis for personal transportation, or owned by a company rather than a household, but kept at home, regularly available for the use of household members. Most vehicles included in the RTECS are classified as "light- duty vehicles" (weighing less than 8,500 pounds). However, the RTECS also includes a very small number of "other" vehicles, such as motor homes and larger trucks that are available for personal use.

Navigation computation in the smart cockpit

E-Print Network (OSTI)

This thesis discusses the design and development of a hics. software module responsible for performing various navigation computations in the smart cockpit. The goals of decreased workload and increased situation awareness for the general aviation community are the motivating forces behind this software, the Navigation Module. The smart cockpit environment in which the Navigation Module operates is called the General Aviation Pilot Advisory and Training System (GAPATS) and was developed at Texas A&M University. The architecture of GAPATS is presented briefly followed by the functional requirements and operation of the Navigation Module. Next, an overview of the Navigation Module's software architecture is presented to describe how the object oriented methodology in C++ is used for the data abstraction in the Navigation Module. Other factors affecting the development of the Navigation Module are discussed such as the software development environment including useful tools available to the author. Next, results from pilot evaluations of GAPATS are given, noting where the data relate to the Navigation Module. These results show that the Navigation Module achieves its goal of a reduction in workload with an increase in situation awareness. Finally, recommendations are made that will improve future iterations of the Navigation Module, addressing its areas of weakness such as its database structure and flight planning abilities.

Higgs Searches

SciTech Connect

We present the status and prospects of Higgs searches at the Tevatron and the LHC. Results from the Tevatron are using up to 5 fb{sup -} of data collected with the CDF and D0 detectors. The major contributing processes include associated production (WH {yields} l{nu}bb, ZH {yields} {nu}{nu}bb, ZH {yields} llbb) and gluon fusion (gg {yields} H {yields} WW{sup (*)}). Improvements across the full mass range resulting from the larger data sets, improved analyses techniques and increased signal acceptance are discussed. Recent results exclude the SM Higgs boson in a mass range of 160 < m{sub H} < 170 GeV. Searches for the neutral MSSM Higgs boson in the region 90 < m{sub A} < 200 GeV exclude tan {beta} values down to 30 for several benchmark scenarios.

Prospect Manager Prospect Manager ProspectManager is a perl script that utilizes Perl/Tk to allow the user to interface with the standard Prospect tools in a GUI interface. It can be found in the bin directory of the prospect installization. It can be called by the command: prospect_manager.pl You set the sequence file to work with, and the basic options, such as which database to thread aginst, the number of CPUs to use, and the type of threading to be used. There are a number of envirormental varibles that need to be set up in order for Prospect Manager to correctly find the tools that it needs. These enviromental varibles can be setup in the shell initialization script, or in the entry lines in Prospect Manager after the program has been launched. The main window The following need to be set for Prospect Manager to work correctly:

Diffusion Driven Desalination Process Diffusion Driven Desalination Process James F. Klausner, Mohamed Darwish, and Renwei Mei University of Florida Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Gainesville, Florida 32611 Abstract An innovative diffusion driven desalination (DDD) process is presented, and its performance based on thermodynamic considerations is thoroughly explored. The desalination is driven by water vapor saturating dry air flowing through a diffusion tower. Liquid water is condensed out of the air/vapor mixture in a direct contact condenser. The desalination process is suitable for operation at low temperatures and may be driven by waste heat with low thermodynamic availability. It is demonstrated that the DDD process can yield a fresh water production efficiency of 8% with an energy consumption

Phoenix, Arizona. The energy use was Phoenix, Arizona. The energy use was calculated for many window design variations including 5 orientations, 3 glazing areas, 5 shading types, and 20 window Key Issues Orientation: Homes with windows facing predominately north use less energy than homes facing east, south, or west. With high-performance windows and shading strategies, these differences can be considerably less. Window Area: Energy use increases with window area using windows with clear and high-solar-gain glazing. With high-performance windows, energy use may not increase at all when using a larger window area. Shading Condition: On north-facing homes, shading devices will have little impact. On south-facing homes, overhangs can be effective to block the hot summer sun. Shading devices have less impact when using high-

Use of Coal Utilization Use of Coal Utilization By-products and Technology Trends Summary The availability of affordable energy will continue to be essential to our Nation's economic strength. At present over half of the electrical energy demand in the United States is met by the combustion of coal and the reliability of low cost coal-fired power has been a significant factor in our Nation's economic growth and development. Demand for electricity is expected to increase steadily throughout the future, and coal will continue to play a significant role in meeting this demand. However, the contribution of coal to the Nation's energy mix, and the overall cost of electricity, will increasingly depend on our ability to find economical ways to reduce or eliminate any potential adverse environmental impacts associated with the disposal and utilization of coal

Navigating without vision: Basic and applied research

E-Print Network (OSTI)

ABSTRACT: We describe some of the results of our program of basic and applied research on navigating without vision. One basic research topic that we have studied extensively is path integration, a form of navigation in which perceived self-motion is integrated over time to obtain an estimate of current posilion and orientation. In experiments on pathway completion, one test of path integration ability, we have found that subjects who are passively guided over the outbound path without vision exhibit significant errors when attempting to return to the origin but are nevertheless sensitive to turns and segment lengths in the stimulus path. We have also found no major differences in path inlegration ability among blirid and sighted populations. A model we havc developed that attributes errors in path integration to errors in encoding the stimulus path is a good beginning toward understanding path integration performance. In otber research on path integration, in which optic flow information was manipulated in addition to the proprioceptive and vestibular information of nonvisual locomotion, we havc found that optic flow is a weak input to the path integration process. In other basic research, our studies of auditory distance perception in outdoor environments show systematic underestimation oC sound source distance. Our applied research has been concerned with developing and evaluating a navigation system for the visually impaired that uses three recent technologies: the Global Positioning System, Geographic Information Systems, and virtual acouslics. Our work shows that there is considerable promise of these three technologies in allowing visually impaired individuals to navigate and learn about unfamiliar environments without the assistance of human guides. A Wellbore Inertial Navigation System (WINS) was developed and tested. Developed for directional surveying of geothermal, oil, and gas wells, the system uses gyros and accelerometers to obtain survey errors of less than 10 ft (approx. 3 m) in a 10,000-ft (approx. 300-m) well. The tool, which communicates with a computer at the surface, is 4 in. (approx. 10 cm) in diameter and 20 ft (approx. 6.1 m) long. The concept and hardware is based on a system developed by Sandia for flight vehicles.

'Make' 'Make' Introduction to 'Make' Introduction The UNIX make utility facilitates the creation and maintenance of executable programs from source code. make keeps track of the commands needed to build the code and when changes are made to a source file, recompiles only the necessary files. make creates and updates programs with a minimum of effort. A small initial investment of time is needed to set up make for a given software project, but afterward, recompiling and linking is done consistently and quickly by typing one command: make, instead of issuing many complicated command lines that invoke the compiler and linker. This tutorial will introduce the simple usage of the make utility with the goal of building an executable program from a series of source code files.

Association search in semantic web: search + inference

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Association search is to search for certain instances in semantic web and then make inferences from and about the instances we have found. In this paper, we propose the problem of association search and our preliminary solution for it using Bayesian network. We first minutely define the association search and its categorization. We then define tasks in association search. In terms of Bayesian network, we take ontology taxonomy as network structure in Bayesian network. We use the query log of instances to estimate the network parameters. After the Bayesian network is constructed, we give the solution for association search in the network.

We search for the decay B \\Gamma ! \\Gamma in a sample of over 2 million charged B decays using the CLEO detector. We use the channel in which the tau decays leptonically, and combine this lepton with the missing energy and momentum in the event to form a B candidate. A fit to the mass and energy distribution of these B candidates yields \\Gamma14 \\Sigma 46 signal events. This value corresponds to an upper limit of B(B \\Gamma ! \\Gamma ) ! 2:2 \\Theta 10 \\Gamma3 at the 90% confidence level. Permanent address: University of Hawaii at Manoa 1 I. INTRODUCTION The purely leptonic decays of mesons are perhaps the simplest of all known decays of hadrons. Unlike all other decays, the final state is unaffected by strong interactions. As a consequence, the rate for these decays can be predicted by many models of particle interactions, and measurement of the rate can provide information about a particular model that can be interpreted easily. In this paper we report on a new ...

Sure success partial search

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Partial search has been proposed recently for finding the target block containing a target element with fewer queries than the full Grover search algorithm which can locate the target precisely. Since such partial searches will likely be used as subroutines for larger algorithms their success rate is important. We propose a partial search algorithm which achieves success with unit probability.

Quantum search with resonances

E-Print Network (OSTI)

We present a continuous time quantum search algorithm analogous to Grover's. In particular, the optimal search time for this algorithm is proportional to $\\sqrt{N}$, where $N$ is the database size. This search algorithm can be implemented using any Hamiltonian with a discrete energy spectrum through excitation of resonances between an initial and the searched state. This algorithm is robust and, as in the case of Grover's, it allows for an error $O(1/\\sqrt{N})$ in the determination of the searched state. A discrete time version of this continuous time search algorithm is built, and the connection between the search algorithms with discrete and continuous times is established.

Introduction to Electroweak Symmetry Breaking

SciTech Connect

The Standard Model (SM) is the backbone of elementary particle physics-not only does it provide a consistent framework for studying the interactions of quark and leptons, but it also gives predictions which have been extensively tested experimentally. In these notes, I review the electroweak sector of the Standard Model, discuss the calculation of electroweak radiative corrections to observables, and summarize the status of SM Higgs boson searches. Despite the impressive experimental successes, however, the electroweak theory is not completely satisfactory and the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking is untested. I will discuss the logic behind the oft-repeated statement: 'There must be new physics at the TeV scale'. These lectures reflect my strongly held belief that upcoming results from the LHC will fundamentally change our understanding of electroweak symmetry breaking. In these lectures, I review the status of the electroweak sector of the Standard Model, with an emphasis on the importance of radiative corrections and searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson. A discussion of the special role of the TeV energy scale in electroweak physics is included.

Anytime Heuristic Search

E-Print Network (OSTI)

We describe how to convert the heuristic search algorithm A* into an anytime algorithm that finds a sequence of improved solutions and eventually converges to an optimal solution. The approach we adopt uses weighted heuristic search to find an approximate solution quickly, and then continues the weighted search to find improved solutions as well as to improve a bound on the suboptimality of the current solution. When the time available to solve a search problem is limited or uncertain, this creates an anytime heuristic search algorithm that allows a flexible tradeoff between search time and solution quality. We analyze the properties of the resulting Anytime A* algorithm, and consider its performance in three domains; sliding-tile puzzles, STRIPS planning, and multiple sequence alignment. To illustrate the generality of this approach, we also describe how to transform the memory-efficient search algorithm Recursive Best-First Search (RBFS) into an anytime algorithm.

Faceted Semantic Search for Personalized Social Search

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Actual social networks (like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, ...) need to deal with vagueness on ontological indeterminacy. In this paper is analyzed the prototyping of a faceted semantic search for personalized social search using the "joint meaning" in a community environment. User researches in a "collaborative" environment defined by folksonomies can be supported by the most common features on the faceted semantic search. A solution for the context-aware personalized search is based on "joint meaning" understood as a joint construal of the creators of the contents and the user of the contents using the faced taxonomy with the Semantic Web. A proof-of concept prototype shows how the proposed methodological approach can also be applied to existing presentation components, built with different languages and/or component technologies.

Specifically, we show that the trace of a search can be interpreted as a combinational circuit, and a search algorithm then defines a propositional language consisting of circuits that are generated across all possible executions of the algorithm. In particular, we show that several versions of exhaustive DPLL search correspond to such well-known languages as FBDD, OBDD, and a precisely-defined subset of d-DNNF. By thus mapping search algorithms to propositional languages, we provide a uniform and practical framework in which successful search techniques can be harnessed for compilation of knowledge into various languages of interest, and a new methodology whereby the power and limitations of search algorithms can be understood by looking up the tractability and succinctness of the corresponding propositional l...

Intermittent search strategies

E-Print Network (OSTI)

This review examines intermittent target search strategies, which combine phases of slow motion, allowing the searcher to detect the target, and phases of fast motion during which targets cannot be detected. We first show that intermittent search strategies are actually widely observed at various scales. At the macroscopic scale, this is for example the case of animals looking for food ; at the microscopic scale, intermittent transport patterns are involved in reaction pathway of DNA binding proteins as well as in intracellular transport. Second, we introduce generic stochastic models, which show that intermittent strategies are efficient strategies, which enable to minimize the search time. This suggests that the intrinsic efficiency of intermittent search strategies could justify their frequent observation in nature. Last, beyond these modeling aspects, we propose that intermittent strategies could be used also in a broader context to design and accelerate search processes.

Correlations in Grover search

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Grover search is a well-known quantum algorithm that outperforms any classical search algorithm. It is known that quantum correlations such as entanglement are necessary for the power of quantum computation. But entanglement is not the only kind of quantum correlations. Other quantum correlations such as quantum discord are also useful to capture some aspects of the nonclassical correlation. We investigate several kinds of correlations including both quantum and classical in the whole process of Grover search algorithm. These correlations are the concurrence, entanglement of formation, quantum discord, classical correlation and mutual information. The behaviors of quantum discord, classical correlation and mutual information are almost the same while the concurrence is different. When the search is over, all kinds of correlations are zero, we argue that this is necessary for the final step in the search.

Underwater acoustic navigation with the WHOI micro-modem

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Abstract ó The WHOI Micro-Modem is a compact, low-power acoustic transceiver that can provide both acoustic telemetry and navigation. Its size and versatility make it ideal for integration in autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The modem supports the use of both broadband and narrowband transponders for long baseline navigation systems, has a modem-to-modem ranging capability, and can be configured to provide synchronous oneway ranging, when integrated with a precision clock. This paper gives an overview of the different navigation systems supported by the Micromodem and presents the results from field tests conducted on the SeaBED AUV in deployments in Greece, the Bluefin AUV, and whale localizations in the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary. Binary Quantum Search

E-Print Network (OSTI)

Database search has wide applications and is used as a subroutine in many important algorithms. We shall consider a database with one target item. Quantum algorithm finds the target item in a database faster than any classical algorithm. It frequently occurs in practice that only a portion of information about the target item is interesting, or we need to find a group of items sharing some common feature as the target item. This problem is in general formulated as search for a part of the database [a block] containing the target item, instead of the item itself. This is partial search. Partial search trades accuracy for speed, i.e. it works faster than a full search. Partial search algorithm was discovered by Grover and Radhakrishnan. We shall consider optimized version of the algorithm and call it GRK. It can be applied successively [in a sequence]. First the database is partitioned into blocks and we use GRK to find the target block. Then this target block is partitioned into sub-blocks and we use GRK again to find the target sub-block. [We can call it binary quantum search.] Another possibility is to partition the database into sub-blocks directly and use GRK to find the target sub-block in one time. In this paper we prove that the latter is faster [makes less queries to the oracle].

Cool roofs, also referred to as white roofs, have special coatings that reflect sunlight and emit heat more efficiently than traditional roofs, keeping them cooler in the sun. Cool roofing technologies can be implemented quickly and at a relatively low cost, making it the fastest growing sector of the building industry. Pierce Digital Communications Specialist, Office of Public Affairs Lately, I've been hearing a lot about cool roof technologies, so I welcomed the chance to learn more at a recent seminar. U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu is among the many cool roof enthusiasts. The Secretary recently announced plans to install cool roofs

An informal introduction to parallel processors

Science Conference Proceedings (OSTI)

In the summer of 1992, I had the opportunity to participate in a Faculty Research Program at Argonne National Laboratory. During that time I came in contact with some developments in computer science that were unfamiliar to me as a mathematician. Since most mathematicians have some exposure to computers, but certainly are not computer scientists, I felt it was appropriate to write a paper summarizing my introduction to parallel processing. This paper is not meant to be a full explanation of the topic, but an informal introduction for the ``mathematical layman.``

The Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Market Introduction Study Workshop was attended by approximately forty representatives from various stakeholder organizations. The event took place at the Hotel Helix in Washington, D.C. on December 1-2, 2008. The purpose of this workshop was to follow-up last year s PHEV Value Proposition Study, which showed that indeed, a viable and even thriving market for these vehicles can exist by the year 2030. This workshop aimed to identify immediate action items that need to be undertaken to achieve a successful market introduction and ensuing large market share of PHEVs in the U.S. automotive fleet.

Physicists at Fermilab are searching for the smallest building blocks of Physicists at Fermilab are searching for the smallest building blocks of matter. Currently there are three kinds of building blocks: quarks, leptons and bosons. Read about Fermilab's search for the bottom and top quarks, the accelerator and detectors needed for their discovery, the spin-offs along the way, and the continuing efforts to reveal the basic particles and forces of nature. Searching for the Building Blocks of Matter was an exhibit for the public on the 15th floor of Wilson Hall at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. A committee of physicists and Fermilab employees developed the content for the exhibit. This web site includes the text and graphics from that exhibit. Automated search for supernovae

SciTech Connect

This thesis describes the design, development, and testing of a search system for supernovae, based on the use of current computer and detector technology. This search uses a computer-controlled telescope and charge coupled device (CCD) detector to collect images of hundreds of galaxies per night of observation, and a dedicated minicomputer to process these images in real time. The system is now collecting test images of up to several hundred fields per night, with a sensitivity corresponding to a limiting magnitude (visual) of 17. At full speed and sensitivity, the search will examine some 6000 galaxies every three nights, with a limiting magnitude of 18 or fainter, yielding roughly two supernovae per week (assuming one supernova per galaxy per 50 years) at 5 to 50 percent of maximum light. An additional 500 nearby galaxies will be searched every night, to locate about 10 supernovae per year at one or two percent of maximum light, within hours of the initial explosion.

CDIAC::Carbon Emission::Introduction

NLE Websites -- All DOE Office Websites (Extended Search)

Introduction Introduction Each year the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC) generates estimates of carbon releases from fossil-fuel consumption and cement production. Emissions from fossil-fuel burning represent the largest anthropogenic source of carbon to the atmosphere and are an important contributor to elevated atmospheric CO2 levels. CDIAC produces annual fossil-fuel CO2 emission time series at global and national scales and these time series serve as building blocks for other data products including gridded (1 x 1) emission time series. Details regarding the methods used to produce these time series and data products may be found on the CDIAC website. This new interface allows users to query, visualize, and download the latest CDIAC fossil-fuel CO2 emission estimates. In the future, additional
