Asymptotic representations of quantum affine superalgebras

E-Print Network [OSTI]

We study representations of the $q$-Yangian, the upper Borel subalgebra with respect to RTT realization of the quantum affine superalgebra associated with the Lie superalgebra $\\mathfrak{gl}(M,N)$. Following the work of Hernandez-Jimbo, we construct inductive systems of Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules by using a cyclicity result of tensor products of these modules we established recently, and realize their inductive limits as modules over the $q$-Yangian, extending the asymptotic construction of Hernandez-Jimbo to the super case. Then, we propose a new asymptotic construction on the inductive limits of the same inductive systems, resulting in modules over the full quantum affine superalgebra depending on an additional parameter. $q$-character and Gelfand-Tsetlin basis for these two kinds of modules are also investigated.

Three-dimensional mapping of equiprobable hydrostratigraphic units at the Frenchman Flat Corrective Action Unit, Nevada Test Site

SciTech Connect (OSTI)

Geological and geophysical data are used with the sequential indicator simulation algorithm of Gomez-Hernandez and Srivastava to produce multiple, equiprobable, three-dimensional maps of informal hydrostratigraphic units at the Frenchman Flat Corrective Action Unit, Nevada Test Site. The upper 50 percent of the Tertiary volcanic lithostratigraphic column comprises the study volume. Semivariograms are modeled from indicator-transformed geophysical tool signals. Each equiprobable study volume is subdivided into discrete classes using the ISIM3D implementation of the sequential indicator simulation algorithm. Hydraulic conductivity is assigned within each class using the sequential Gaussian simulation method of Deutsch and Journel. The resulting maps show the contiguity of high and low hydraulic conductivity regions.

Lattice gauge action suppressing near-zero modes of H{sub W}

SciTech Connect (OSTI)

We propose a lattice action including unphysical Wilson fermions with a negative mass m{sub 0} of the order of the inverse lattice spacing. With this action, the exact zero mode of the Hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator H{sub W}(m{sub 0}) cannot appear and near-zero modes are strongly suppressed. By measuring the spectral density {rho}({lambda}{sub W}), we find a gap near {lambda}{sub W}=0 on the configurations generated with the standard and improved gauge actions. This gap provides a necessary condition for the proof of the exponential locality of the overlap-Dirac operator by Hernandez, Jansen, and Luescher. Since the number of near-zero modes is small, the numerical cost to calculate the matrix sign function of H{sub W}(m{sub 0}) is significantly reduced, and the simulation including dynamical overlap fermions becomes feasible. We also introduce a pair of twisted mass pseudofermions to cancel the unwanted higher mode effects of the Wilson fermions. The gauge coupling renormalization due to the additional fields is then minimized. The topological charge measured through the index of the overlap-Dirac operator is conserved during continuous evolutions of gauge field variables.

Gas-Expanded Liquids: Synergism of Experimental and Computational Determinations of Local Structure

SciTech Connect (OSTI)

This project focuses on the characterization of a new class of solvent systems called gas-expanded liquids (GXLs), targeted for green-chemistry processing. The collaboration has adopted a synergistic approach combining elements of molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and spectroscopic experiments to explore the local solvent behavior that could not be studied by simulation or experiment alone. The major accomplishments from this project are: Applied MD simulations to explore the non-uniform structure of CO2/methanol and CO2/acetone GXLs and studied their dynamic behavior with self-diffusion coefficients and correlation functions Studied local solvent structure and solvation behavior with a combination of spectroscopy and MD simulations Measured transport properties of heterocyclic solutes in GXLs through Taylor-Aris diffusion techniques and compared these findings to those of MD simulations Probed local polarity and specific solute-solvent interactions with Diels-Alder and SN2 reaction studies The broader scientific impact resulting from the research activities of this contract have been recognized by two recent awards: the Presidential Green Chemistry Award (Eckert & Liotta) and a fellowship in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (Hernandez). In addition to the technical aspects of this contract, the investigators have been engaged in a number of programs extending the broader impacts of this project. The project has directly supported the development of two postdoctoral researcher, four graduate students, and five undergraduate students. Several of the undergraduate students were co-funded by a Georgia Tech program, the Presidential Undergraduate Research Award. The other student, an African-American female graduated from Georgia Tech in December 2005, and was co-funded through an NSF Research and Education for Undergraduates (REU) award.
