Daniel McDonald

Daniel (Dan) McDonald is the director of the Instrumentation
and Controls Division at the Oak
Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The division developed
state-of-the-art measurement and control systems for industrial,
national security, and scientific applications.
McDonald has served in a number of technical and managerial roles
at ORNL and in the community. He cofounded the Oak Ridge Computer
Association, is a member of the Student Motivational Task Force
at Tennessee State University in Nashville, and also served as
cotechnical director of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville,
Measurement and Control Engineering Center, a National Science
Foundation University/Industry Collaborative Research Center.
McDonald graduated from Michigan State University in 1974 with a
B.S. degree in electrical and systems engineering. He received an
M.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the
University of Tennessee in 1979.
McDonald is a member of the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers, the American Association for the
Advancement of Science, and the World Tae Kwon Do Kum Do
Federation. He is an instructor of Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial
art, and a student of traditional oriental healing. He is a
cofacilitator of the ORNL Leadership Development Course and the
"Path to Dialog," an interpersonal communication
workshop.
McDonald has been married for 23 years to his childhood
sweetheart, Victoria, and they have three children, Martin, Anne
Marie, and Katherine.
