Chair, American Association of Engineering Societies


Kenneth W. Dungan is cofounder and principal engineer of Risk Technologies, LLC. He has a broad, diversified background in safety, fire protection, and environmental engineering. He currently provides engineering services, including performing hazards and safety analyses and risk assessments, conducting and reviewing testing programs, developing and reviewing loss prevention programs, auditing risk management programs, and presenting seminars and workshops on fire protection and safety. He has particular expertise in utilities, telecommunications, semiconductors, and chemical industries.

Prior to cofounding Risk Technologies, LLC in 1995, he founded Professional Loss Control in 1976 and served as its president for 19 years. He also served as the assistant director of engineering for a captive insurance company, and was the department head for fire protection engineering of a large chemical and nuclear protection facility. Dungan has taught college-level courses on many aspects of fire protection and has lectured around the world on various subjects relating to loss prevention and control.

Dungan is affiliated and has held offices with a number of professional organizations, including the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and American Association of Engineering Societies. In 1997, he served as vice chair of the National Research Council, Board on Assessment of National Institute of Standards and Technology Programs, Building and Fire Research Laboratory.

Dungan holds an M.S. in engineering (environmental engineering with a chemical engineering minor) from the University of Tennessee (1977). He earned his B.S. in chemical engineering and fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland in 1971.
