Metamaterials are a new class of artificially-structured materials that provides the ability to manipulate the flow of electromagnetic energy in ways that are not achievable with natural materials. These materials represent a new frontier in materials science. For more information about new devices being developed with these metamaterials, see In the OSTI Collections: Metamaterials, by Dr. William Watson, Physicist, OSTI staff.
